We are aware that it may seem that we have disappeared but we are still here working on a variety of projects- albeit from home rather than our lovely office. We are in the process of updating our woefully out-of-date website but as we are focusing on fulfilling existing work, it has taken a back-seat (again).
In the meantime, we will be posting photos of current projects, starting with these two one-off family houses we have on site.

Happy New Year to all friends and colleagues.
I am delighted to let you know that after 16 weeks with no proper internet and some very difficult weeks with no telephone, we are entering 2020 with the full complement of services.
I reiterate our apologies for those whose communications have gone awry during this time, and promise that we will be following up missed / unanswered messages and mails during the coming days. If you have tried and failed to make contact with us, please let us know, either by phone on 01353 658 214 or by email at [email protected].
We look forward to talking to you.
Best Regards
Judith Brear

This is a note in case you are trying to phone us:
with breathtaking incompetence Vodafone, who have failed to provide us with broadband since we moved offices in September, managed with the kind assistance of BT Openreach to disconnect our phone line last Friday. Despite strings of broken promises and assurances we are still without a phone, and are not sure when it will be reinstated. So I do apologise if you are trying to call us. We do have mobile broadband so thankfully can communicate by email. So if you need/ would like to speak to one of use, please email [email protected] with a number and we will call you back. If you have left a message on my mobile, again, please email. My voicemail is overloaded and so not every message seems to be getting through. Abject apologies for any inconvenience to friends, clients and colleagues. I can only hope and pray that this nightmare will soon be resolved.
In that optimistic hope, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas, and look forward to speaking to you in the New Year.
Judith Brear

Freeman Brear Architects recently received planning approval for this new 3 bedroom house in the countryside.
The Planning report stated, ‘the proposed dwelling is considered acceptable in line with paragraph 55 of the NPPF’ (National Planning Policy Framework)’. This means that the design of the house is considered to:
- be truly outstanding or innovative, helping raise standards of design more generally in rural areas;
- reflect the highest standards in architecture;
- significantly enhance its immediate setting; and
- be sensitive to the defining characteristics of the local area.
We anticipate it being on site next year.

Due to an increasing workload, Freeman Brear Architects need another person in the office. Ideally a Part 2 student or a Technician but we would be interested to talk to anyone with drafting experience and enthusiasm. We have a wide variety of really interesting projects and can offer a trainee plenty of experience. Our office is in the centre of Ely, within 10 minutes walking distance from Ely station. If you are interested, please send a message or call Judith Brear or Bruce Freeman.

Following a spectacular few months, where we have been shortlisted for 2 regional awards (and won one), been shortlisted for a national award, and achieved some tricky planning consents on a number of interesting one-off houses (amongst other projects), we have recently been commissioned for another 2 ambitious eco-houses and are being considered for some other exciting new work. So we find we are in need of a keen assistant (Part 1/Part 2/ Technician) who would like to gain experience in a very small, busy office in Ely, walking distance from the station. The work will be very varied and challenging and our only requirement (assuming a level of CAD literacy) is cheerful commitment. Email, message or ring if you are interested.
