InExeter: Our City, Our Impact
Hello, wonderful followers! 👋 Thank you for being part of our social media community—we love sharing stories about Exeter and the fantastic businesses that make our city so special!
But... do you know why we do this? 🤔
Aside from the fact that our small team loves Exeter (it’s a job requirement!), we’re InExeter, the Business Improvement District (BID) for the city centre. Funded by local businesses, we’re here to make Exeter even better!
We’ve delivered the city’s Christmas lights for 10 years 🎄✨ and earned awards for our city planting 🌸🏆. Every project we do is to improve the city for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
So, why mention this now? 🤷♀️ Well, every five years, businesses vote to decide if we continue. It’s a big ask, as they’re essentially voting to invest financially for the city’s greater good.
Curious to learn more? 📽️We’ve put together a short video that captures our work and the impact it’s had on our city. Watch it and discover how, thanks to Exeter’s business community, we continue to make the city a thriving, vibrant place to be!

Celebrating 10 Years of InExeter! 🎉
Celebrating 10 Years of InExeter! 🎉
This year marks a decade of InExeter supporting local businesses and delivering impactful projects across the city. Run by businesses, for businesses, we are proud of what we’ve achieved together through a range of initiatives, schemes, and collaborations that continue to make Exeter thrive.
Thanks to the collective investment of businesses, we’ve accomplished so much over the past 10 years, and we’re eager to build on this momentum to continue improving our city. This Autumn, we’re asking businesses to vote in the upcoming ballot to help us keep this good work going.
Here's a sneak peek of our mini video showcasing InExeter's journey. The full film will premiere tomorrow at our 2025-2030 Business Plan Launch to the businesses who fund the work we do.
We’re passionate about making Exeter better for everyone—businesses, residents, and visitors alike.💚

Celebrating Sidwella
#ThrowbackThursday 🌟 Today marks 2 months since Winter In Exeter. Who else witnessed the magnificent parade of Burn The Curtain's giant puppet of Saint Sidwella through the town centre?
This incredible puppet, inspired by the tale of Sidwella, Exeter's beloved patron saint, was a collaboration between InExeter and St Sidwell's Community Centre, thanks to Heritage Lottery Fund support. 🎉
Sidwella emerged from a workshop just 8 miles from the city centre, evolving from sketch to maiden voyage over 18 months with the expertise of 8 Burn the Curtain artists.
The puppet's design and colours mirrored the stained-glass window in St Sidwell’s chapel. Workshops run by Burn the Curtain at St Sidwell’s Community Centre invited the community to contribute unique panels to adorn Sidwella's dress, resulting in a stunning costume featuring over 60 panels stitched together to form the belt, ties and neckline of the final costume. A poet and composer were also commissioned to create the audio that accompanied Sidwella on her walk and featured the voices of a local choir.
Accompanied by lanterns created in workshops at St Sidwell’s, Sidwella captivated Christmas shoppers during her maiden voyage through the streets of Exeter. ✨
She certainly turned a few heads amongst the Christmas shoppers... Sidwella is currently residing in St Sidwell's Chapel. You can get in touch with St Sidwell’s Community Centre if you would like to see the puppet.
