You too could feel like this fella (living his best life with snacks provided by guests) and book one of the few gaps we have this summer. We are fully booked except for 22 July (4 nights) in The Hutch and 6 July (3 nights), 26 July (3 nights) and 10 Aug (3 nights) in The Burrow.

Many of our guests visit National Trust properties while staying with us. We have been to Knightshayes and Castle Drogo recently, and they are a delight. Well worth chatting to the volunteers who are so knowledgeable, and there is obligatory cafe visit to enjoy. 🍰 🏰 🪴 🫖

The Hutch - outside and inside. Looking inviting for our guest arrival yesterday. Our lovely guests have stayed many times before to visit family in the area, always nice to see familiar faces return time and time again.

The day started with a light dusting of sleet, in the middle it was hail and rain Armageddon and a rainbow to round things off. The good old British Spring. Four seasons in one day - well, except the sun ☀️

Airbnb photo refresh - the winter months are a good time to update our listing photos. It's one of those jobs you forget to do when you are busy washing, ironing and cleaning holiday lets. 😄It also makes me realise the improvements we make each year on our properties. Winter refresh - we have always tried hard to reinvest and keep The Hutch and The Burrow looking their best for guests. So, this winter we have replaced the curtains in The Hutch and I also managed some garden maintenance last week (before the cold and rain). New blinds also to come. January and February are always our busiest time for bookings for the year ahead so if you are looking for availability in the summer months, don’t leave it too long!

Happy Christmas to all our guests and friends - we had The Hutch & Burrow Christmas “Party” today. Gary from Maintenance was in attendance, as was our Trainee Housekeeper and Head of Housekeeping/Admin/Gardening/Front of House/General Dogsbody. Would definitely recommend The Agricultural Inn, in Bramford Speke. We decided to leave Head of Security (Chester) and Customer Happiness Manager (Billy) at home. The latter of which has already found and eaten the reindeer food….

Happy Christmas to me! Our latest guest review from their stay in The Hutch - "100% exceeded expectations. Best airbnb ever. Perfect views. Countryside dream! Pristine cleanliness. Personal touches to make it so much more than a home from home. Unbelievably comfy sofa and bed. No road noise. I am in love with the hutch and can’t wait to return. Thanks to Chloe’s welcome guide there is SO much to see and do. Travellers rest is a great spot for a quality fresh generous and tasty family meal. Every possible creature comfort. What a glorious find made all the more special by Chloe with Christmas tree, books and a wonderful selection of breakfast choices including local Devon full fat milk and butter and spreads. Chloe thank you and continue with your amazing work."

I think this was the last of summer, taken last week. In that very British way though, I do embrace all our seasons. Autumn and Winter are still great times to visit us. And as yet, Christmas is still available. We even provide a tree 🎄

EV (electric vehicle) charging now available for The Hutch and The Burrow guests! We have found more guests are arriving with electric cars (plus we have one ourselves now) so seemed a good value add for guests. The Go Zero Charge system is also designed for holiday let businesses. Just let us know if you wish to use it, and we will send you the details of how it works and how to pay.

Over the last week, I have been lucky enough to visit two National Trust properties here in Devon. Castle Drogo and Coleton Fishacre. Beautiful gardens, homely homes (not overly grand) and obvs a visit is never complete without a NT cafe stop. Even managed a swim at Scabbacombe. Highly recommend all of it!

“Love the little touches” is something a lot of guests say to me. We don’t go overboard on the rabbit theme but I have a couple of recent additions to The Burrow and The Hutch which are quite cool. 🐇

Clematis is rambling, geraniums are blooming, grass has been cut (after I mowed through the cable 🫢) and the BBQ is ready for action. There are a few short gaps in The Hutch calendar between now and September if you would like a mini break, let me know!

Once a year we have the bottom part of our garden cut back, and we get keen about what we could do with it. Camping pods? Picnic area? Chairlift?! (It is very steep). More than likely we will forget about it for another year. Anyway I thought I would share it as many guests ask what is below the fence. Let’s go with “wild garden”.

Tom Daley riding into Longdown for Comic Relief

Tom Daley riding in horrendous weather for Comic Relief. We clapped him into Longdown at 7.45 this evening and he still hadn’t reached the end point on Dartmoor. He started at 6am this morning. Amazing achievement, donation made.

Calm, warm stunning evening. We always enjoy watching the farm machines cutting the grass and making the hay bales (aka sausage rolls). He only lost one this time when it careered down into the valley. 🚜
