The Haddow's contacted us because their original bathroom layout didn't work for them - the pivot shower door hit off the sink when opened and the whole enclosure was difficult to maintain. They wanted a modern, contemporary bathroom with a walk in shower and more space. To create a larger enclosure, we knocked through into the wardrobe backing onto the room to create a space for an inset walk in shower enclosure with rainfall shower. The dark marble tiles were replaced with bright and contemporary Fibo wall boards with a wall mounted vanity basin, wall hung toilet, black brassware and accessories and ambient lighting to give a luxury feel. The finished bathroom looks incredible and we hope the family enjoy it for many years to come.

We are into week 2 of life in our new showroom and are getting settled in and loving all the space we now have. Our open day was a huge success, we still can't believe how many of you came to visit us!

The journey to opening the new showroom is one we could never have done alone and we have so many suppliers and tradespeople who helped us that we want to thank. There's too many for one post so we'll start with the tradespeople who all made it happen.

WHAT A DAY!

A massive thank you to everyone who came to our grand opening celebration yesterday. We couldn’t believe the turn out we had, it was lovely to have friends old and new come and visit us in our new home and celebrate the start of a new era at KD Home Improvements. We would like to thank Fiona from Food 4 Friends for the delicious buffet and cupcakes we had yesterday - if anyone needs catering for an event we can’t recommend her enough. Spooky Offerings for all our fantastic KD tote bags and merch that was handed out to visitors yesterday and Gail at Balloon-a-loon who made us the most amazing balloons that were admired by everyone.
We also started the baby in the sink picture collection. At our old showroom, he had a tradition that when babies came into the showroom they got their picture taken in our window sink. So it was lovely to continue that tradition in our new home and what adorable little models we had!

From tomorrow the showroom will be open 9am till 4pm Monday to Friday and we are so excited for this new chapter.

24 hours until we open 🥳

We are busy doing all the finishing touches and getting everything ready for our grand opening tomorrow. It’s all coming together and we can’t wait to welcome everyone and show you our new showroom. There will be drinks, refreshments and KD tote bags with some gifts for our guests.

There is limited parking at the side of our building but there is plenty additional parking down at the community center which is only a minutes walk away.

A little update - our phone lines are still down and we are also experiencing a power cut in our temporary office so all the WiFi and computers are down. Happy Monday 😂 the power cut is affecting a large area in Brightons, including our new showroom and the surrounding shops and homes. The Scottish Power website indicates it should be fixed by 12.30pm so hopefully we’ll be back up and running by then 🤞🏻

Happy Friday everyone! 3 weeks tomorrow until the new showroom is opening and we've had electricians and granite installers in this week ticking more things off the to do list for the opening party. Remember to put the 24th in your diaries to come along to our grand opening.

Today we have another instalment of 'What should I pick?' and today we are discussing bathroom wall coverings which are usually tiles or wet wall. There is no right or wrong, it really comes down to the clients preferences and look they want in their bathroom. Prices can vary for both so there are options for every budget. Everyone has different tastes and design ideas so we like to cover all bases and make sure there is something for everyone.

Sneek peek 👀

A few weeks ago we posted a CAD image of one of our displays and here it is nearly finished. This is a bigger version of the small cashmere display in our previous showroom - cashmere is such a popular choice in both gloss and matt finishes. Styled with our edge handles to give the handless look with the practicality of a handle to minimise those pesky finger prints. Only 4 weeks to go until we open 🥳

Happy Monday everyone. We are now 6 weeks away from our showroom opening so the push is on. The to do list is getting ticked off, progress is being made and we are getting excited.

While planning the new showroom we obviously had to decide which different products we were going to display and what their pros and cons are. These are questions we often get asked by clients when making their choices. So, we have decided to make a little series of information posts to describe the differences between certain materials so that it might make things a little clearer when you come to pick what you would like for your own home.

First up, and a very commonly asked question - which worktops should I pick? We do many types of worktops in different finishes and budgets and people have different views on which are best. This is a brief description of what the differences are between them and some of their pros and cons.

We are still hard at work fitting kitchens in between trying to get our new showroom all ready. Here are a couple we recently completed.

Both these clients wanted maintenance free kitchens that required no decorating. In the first kitchen all the walls were clad in a matt finish wet wall that complimented the white gloss kitchen perfectly. They also chose matt white ceiling cladding, dark grey tile flooring and Minerva solid surface worktops in peak stone. The units were boxed up to the ceiling so no cleaning or dusting above required. The second kitchen is a mix of light grey and Parisian blue units with white Calcutta worktops and splash backs which we fitted above and below the wall units. Again they went with matt white ceiling panels and a grey floor tile. Both kitchens will need no painting or maintenance - which means more free time to cook in them!

📣 WE HAVE AN OPENING DATE 📣

Nearly every day we get asked if we know when we will be opening our new showroom and now we can finally share a date!

SATURDAY 24TH AUGUST - KD GRAND OPENING

The new showroom has taken a lot of work as its bigger than our previous showroom and we have went through many different ideas regarding layouts and what we wanted to display. On top of that we have been continuing our client installations as normal as well as dealing with the situation at Mary Street and insurance companies etc. Its been alot! But we are now on the home stretch, with out interior layout finalised and the displays going in we can now work on a time line for when it will be completed and when we can finally move in and get settled into our new home.

We will be sharing details of our opening party nearer the time, but for now get the date saved in your diaries and we can't wait to welcome you all and help us start our new chapter.

🦷 Oakley Dental Practice 🦷

Another job we have been working on lately is a new dental room at Oakley Dental Practice and it’s hard to believe these before and afters are the same room. The practice is expanding and we were asked to convert this basic surgery room into a dental one. Full plumbing and electrics had to be ran for the new dentist chair and equipment as well as plastering the walls, lifting and installing new commercial vinyl flooring, cabinets, work surfaces, ceiling tiles and decorating. All works were coordinated by ourselves with guidance from Jack, the dental equipment supplier, and project managed by our installer Calum. Electrics were carried out by Farrell Electrical and Property Services Ltd, flooring by Calton Floors, plastering by Finishing Touch Plasterers and painting by LN Decorating Services. A special thanks to Jamie of JG Plumbing and Heating who went above and beyond running the pipe work for everything as it definitely had its challenges. The room is now ready to be handed over to the equipment installation team. An amazing team effort and we look forward to starting the next room in August.

It’s been a busy past month at KD, the office staff have had some holidays which is why the social media has been a litttle quiet. But we are back and even when we were away, the fitting teams have been busy.

Showroom - we are making some good progress now with our final kitchen displays hopefully arriving this week. Being a bespoke brand that we use, everything is made to order and isn’t just off the shelf. The bathroom displays started to arrive and we have started work on two of them - we’ve even shared a little sneak peak at one of the nearly finished displays 👀 There’s still a long list of things to do and we hope we can announce an opening date soon - but we want to make sure everything is 100% first before we get into party planning mode.

We have also been continuing with our surveys and installs which are keeping us busy. Below is a little contemporary kitchen we fitted last week in white gloss with elemental concrete worktops and green slate splash backs.

Some recently finished bathrooms - grey is definitely still everyone’s favourite. Love the dark anthracite cabinets some of our clients have been going for - they definitely make a statement.

We have had what we think will be the last visits to our little Mary Street showroom and it’s a sad sight to behold 😔
We were in with a structural engineer 2 weeks ago for an assessment and then stuck our head in to take pictures to send to our energy providers (who insist on getting their meters back and are being incredibly unhelpful!) Within these 2 visits the wall units in the middle of the shop have fell down, the mold is everywhere and the ceiling sag has gotten much worse. It’s now in the hands of the structural engineer and their assessment on what the next steps will be.
A sad end for our little showroom, it served us well! And still very impressed with the integrity of those units, even when they fell off the wall. But it is time to close the door for good here and focus on our new home in Brightons. Displays are due to arrive in the next couple of weeks so hopefully we’ll be making good progress soon.

Small business shout out 🗣️

Some friends of mine have set up a bespoke printing company called Spooky Offerings and gifted us a KD printed mug when we were at our old showroom. I thought let’s get some new ones and water bottles for when we move up to our new premises and on top of our original order, they sent us an array of personalised KD items for the new showroom and we are absolutely blown away with them! The range of items and products they do are amazing, as is the quality. They can create and print unique designs on clothing as well as a range of other items to suit what ever you need. We are already planning our next order for all our branded KD items.

We can sympathise with our customers after the past 2 weeks of planning our new showroom displays - choosing colours and styles is tough! But one tool we rely on is our CAD package which is great for showing a lifelike preview of what our clients kitchen, bathroom or bedroom can look like while also allowing them to change layouts, colours and textures until they find their perfect combination. Our CAD package has been essential in helping us plan the new showroom layout and below is a sneak peek and one of our kitchen displays we are putting in. Cashmere gloss is a favourite with our customers so we knew we had to put it back in our new showroom.

Update from our old neighbours who have also been affected by the fire, hopefully be back up and running soon!

*SHOP UPDATE*

Firstly I want to thank everyone for their patience during this difficult time with the shop being closed due to the fire in Laurieston. Works have began in the shop and will be ongoing for the next few weeks. I am hoping this is a speedy process. We are aiming for the end of May beginning of June for re-opening. I will put further social media posts out closer to the time and will also send out a newsletter from the nearcut booking system (check your emails) with a complete update. In the meantime our booking system is open from May end, start of June. Again thanks for your time and patience and support over the last couple of months. Hope to see you all again soon 💈✂️😉

A busy first week at the new KD showroom. We took down all the internal walls to take it back to a blank canvas and have built our new offices and stud work for the new displays. Electrical first fixes are underway and next week we’ll be onto plumbing and plaster work. We even had the two youngest members of Team KD pop in to help build some walls.

We also managed to hang our new internal doors, all supplied by Finewood Doors. We decided to take a selection of doors to showcase them to our customers and display various options and we love them! Thank you Finewood!

Also a big thank you to everyone who has popped in to say hello to us this week and made us feel welcome, everyone has been so kind and friendly. We think we are going to like it here ♥️
