A prequel to the hit television series Outlander has begun filming in Glasgow .

A series of roads have closed in the city's west end for Blood of My Blood shoots from 7 January until 27 January .

Filming is set to run until 27 January. It is expected to air in 2025 after the final series of Outlander next year.

The series is based on a set of 9 books by American author Diana Gabaldon.

The spin-off will focus on the story of Jamie's parents - mother Ellen MacKenzie and father Brian Fraser - which means it is unlikely the show's stars Heughan and Balfe will appear.

Glasgow University was previously used as a filming location for Outlander, with streets in the west end doubling for Boston in the 1960s.

Doune, Blackness and Craigmillar castles are among the other Scottish locations in earlier series.

The show is said to be responsible for a boost in tourism numbers at locations across the country as fans retrace their favourite characters' steps.

According to Glasgow City Council a number of vehicle access restrictions will be put in place on roads with terraced houses such as Woodlands Terrace and Park Circus.

Midhope Castle, a 16th-century tower house, is used as Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach) in Outlander . Left to Jamie by his parents, Brian and Ellen, Lallybroch is also home to Jamie’s sister, Jenny, her husband Ian Murray and their children. NEW – The Crown Royal Castles tour of Scotland

On this tour you get a chance to visit a filming location of smash hit TV series The Crown , plus two Royal Castles , where the Queen and the Queen Mother lived .

The Crown has moved filming for season six to Scotland, as the show recreates Prince William and Kate Middleton’s university days.

The Duke of Cambridge met his future wife while they were both studying at St Andrews University in 2001 and living in the same halls, with the couple beginning dating two years later.

The relationship will feature in the sixth and final season of Netflix’s historical drama, which sees the show inch ever-closer to the present day.

On Friday (15 March), the cast ofThe Crownwere in St Andrew’s, with Ed McVey stepping into the role of the university-age William.

The pair were on set in the Fife town’s North Street, with scores of extras holding Union flags and Saltires in front of the historic St Salvator’s Chapel.

Crews were seen filming cars, carrying the 2 princes , along the street and also the pair taking part in a royal walkabout.

William and Kate became friends during their time at university and began a relationship after she caught the 19-year-old prince’s attention when she strode down the catwalk in a sheer dress for a charity fashion show. The pair graduated from the university, which is Scotland’s oldest, in 2005 and briefly split in 2007.

National Geographic has unveiled its annual list of the 25 inspiring destinations for 2023. Nat Geo’s “Best of the World,” is themed around five categories: Family, Adventure, Culture, Nature, and new this year, Community. The Scottish Highlands are listed in the Nature section
