As English Wine Week has coincided with our 20th wedding anniversary, me and Mrs Hampshire Wine Tours stayed at the wonderful and super-impressive Ashling Park Estate in one of their beautiful lodges built by Will Hardie of TV’s Amazing Spaces.

We’ve have been waiting a long time for visionaries to bring something like this to our part of the South Downs, ever since staying overlooking vineyards in Australia and other regions over the years. I felt I could be back in Aus, South Africa or South America while standing on the balcony of the lovely tasting room and restaurant “The Taste.”

There is great attention to detail in each of the rooms, named after cycles of the vineyard, including ours – “Budburst.”

Our outside deck was surrounded by agapanthus (the greatest wine-country flower!) with a view of the grounds, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Bacchus vines. The perfect spot to enjoy a bottle of their Classic Cuvee, which has just won the Best Classic Cuvee NV in the WineGB awards for the second year, while being entertained by the wildlife, herons, buzzards and what felt like hourly Spitfire fly-pasts from nearby Goodwood.

Ashling Park is a lovely piece of ‘New World’ wine estate in the ‘Old World’ South Downs. I’m looking forward to bringing groups of guests here this season!

After Chile it is over the border into Meat & Malbec country!

What a great day, starting at Bodega Clos de Chacras, Bodega Familia Cassone and then a looooong lunch at Casa El Enemigo Vigil supported by a LOT of wines to taste and finally Bodega Lagarde. We have learned a lot about the region so do get in touch if you want any free tips.

It's clear what the region is about when you arrive at baggage reclaim!

Day 4 of our South American wine tour (Busman's Holiday) and the great Colchagua Wine Tours took us to red wine country where we had another very personal tour with Ana Maria at Perez Cruz (here demonstrating the different impact on the wines from French vs American oak - great idea!) as well as visiting some of the bigger producers Santa Rita Wines and Co**ha y Toro

This was day two in Colchagua and day three with the great team at Colchagua Wine Tours I pride ourselves on giving customers the best day tasting English sparkling wines and these guys lined us up the best selection of vineyards to visit - from the boutique guys we love to the impressive and more established wineries too. Just back from a trip to Chile with our first day in the Casablanca Valley. We made some great friends I can recommend if you are visiting here as it is perfect for wine tourism.
