The Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza is finally open! Here's our Programme Manager, Antony, sharing his thoughts and an exciting update 👇

"I visited back in September 2023, and at that time, only the lobby was open. Even so, it was absolutely stunning - the architecture is just breathtaking and it's absolutely huge, with the towering statue of Rameses II dominating the space.

I'm so excited that the majority of our Egypt trips will include visits to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza from 1 January, as well as the original Egyptian Museum near Tahrir Square, close to our hotel. The Tahrir Square museum houses Tutankhamun’s treasures and other artefacts not yet moved to the new museum."

"Of all the destinations I've travelled, and experiences I've had, nothing can be compared to hiking the Amalfi Coast 😍

Each day's route was so varied, from hiking through beautiful woods to traversing gorges and going up and down the centuries-old staircases iconic to this region, embedded throughout the limestone cliffs. Every day I could feel myself getting stronger, and it was incredible to return home from a vacation feeling fitter and healthier than when I left - not to mention the boost to my mental wellbeing!

We travelled back in time to 79AD in Pompeii and Herculaneum, where we wandered through ancient streets and gained incredible insight into day-to-day life in these cities before they were tragically engulfed by the Vesuvius eruption.

But there was no pinch-me moment quite like the one I had on the last day of the trip when, after completing the endlessly rewarding Walk of the Gods, I jumped head first into the welcoming and refreshing waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and turned back to see the stunning colourful buildings of Positano cascading above me. Wow 🙌"

We recently completed the end of year review for the Explore Foundation, and what an incredible year it has been!

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve donated over £76,000 this year 💚

To name just a few projects, we’ve enabled 30 children to attend Stand with Ukraine's support camp, contributed £2,925 toward emergency aid in Kenya, donated 200 bikes in Tanzania, and supported 71 students through Lone Buffalo’s DevTog5 programme.

And that’s not all - some exciting new initiatives are underway, and we can’t wait to share more with you soon! Thank you for your continued support 🥰

Travel experience | A Taste of Turkey 🇹🇷

"This trip was perfect for anyone who loves Turkish cuisine and culture, and for those who, like me, are short on time but still want to experience as much of Turkey as possible in just 10 days 🙌

It was an eye-opener to witness Istanbul's vibrant way of life. With 18 million people calling this city home, it’s alive with energy and history, which spans the rise and fall of the Turks, Christians, and Ottomans. The country is absolutely fascinating, and I found the people to be incredibly proud of their heritage, yet warm and welcoming to visitors.

Some of the top highlights for me included visiting the stunning Basilica Cistern—it’s absolutely a must-see. The walking tour of Ephesus was another favourite, allowing me to step back in time and immerse myself in ancient history 🥾

But the pièce de résistance had to be Cappadocia’s surreal, lunar landscape. Seeing it all from a hot air balloon at sunrise, alongside over a hundred other balloons, was simply breath-taking."
