If you’re a wine and port connoisseur🍷🍷 have we found the place for you, and a perfect excuse for a Cart Stable getaway!

We spent a wonderful evening at portowinebar in Whitstable, a small but perfectly formed wine bar which boasts an extensive wine list, specialising in Portuguese 🇵🇹 wines and ports.

The menu consists of a variety of delicious Portuguese ‘pestico’ snacks including olives🫒 toasties🥪 prawns 🍤 skewers🍡 cheeses🧀 breads🥖 pâté and cured meats🥓.

The highlight of the night was our flights of port, and of course we tried each flight - white, tawny, ruby and vintage ports 🍷🤪

The owners and staff provided attentive service and were highly knowledgeable about the wines and ports.

This place is a perfect addition to Whitstable’s scene of bijou and stylish independent business’ and we highly recommend a visit to round off your day visiting our local harbour town, but don’t forget to book!

If you fancy a refreshing walk along the beach one of the best places to head to is Dumpton Gap. This is just 25minutes drive from us and from there you can walk north towards Broadstairs, or as we did the other day we headed south to the old ferry ⛴️ town of Ramsgate.

Ramsgate has one of the largest marina’s on the south coast, and overlooking it are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy. While here you can also explore Ramsgate’s tunnel system that was used to shelter 60,000 people during WWII.

You need to time your walk right with the tide times as at high tide the beach route is completely cut off closer to Dumpton Gap… but there are quite a few hours once high tide starts to subside before you need to worry about getting your feet wet! 😆

Whitstable is a favourite place to visit for many of our guests for its seaside charm, Whitstable oysters, the harbour, and its boutique shops. There are also some great places to eat and drink, and yesterday we paid a long overdue visit to The Twelve Taps, a really cool beer, gin and cocktail bar with a friendly and inclusive vibe.

They have a great selection of craft beer with 12 lines on tap to choose from. Can’t decide? Then go for a beer flight of 3 x 1/3 pints of your choice 🍺🍺🍺

For the gin lovers🍸🍸they have a wide selection to chose from, and they also make their own ‘Whitstable Gin’ which there are 3 versions to choose from including a ‘Pizza Gin’!! 🍕🍸 You can also buy a bottle to take a taste of Whitstable back home.

There’s one place that never fails to deliver an amazing view 🤩 regardless of the weather, and that’s the viewing point at Victory Wood, which is on our doorstep.

Part of The Woodland Trust it was planted between 2005 and 2008 to mark the 200th anniversary of Britain’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.

You can drive there but if you’re feeling energetic then you don’t need to, we did a 4.5km circular walk up the bridlepath into Blean Wood where we followed a trail that took us to the Dargate Road hill entrance into Victory Wood.

It’s great any time of day, but our favourite thing to do is to watch the sun setting over the North Kent coast… maybe take a picnic or a couple of drinks 🥪🍹

Walking boots or wellies are recommended until next summer!

We have great walks with Blean Woods right on our doorstep, but just a short drive away there are more amazing walks to choose from along the Kent Downs National Landscape and the North Downs Way National Trail.

Earlier this week we drove 30mins to Wye and did a 7km/4.3m circular walk through Wye Downs. This walk took us just over 2hrs to complete and was mostly off-road public footpaths through the Wye Nature Reserve and the Devils Kneading Trough, across farmland, through the pretty village of Wye, and then the hike back up to the spectacular views at the Wye Crown 👑🤩

It goes without saying that we then had a well deserved pub lunch after🍺, and the New Flying Horse in Wye was the perfect location for this with its fab lunch menu and warm friendly welcome!

We had a drive to Folkestone yesterday for the first time in a while and enjoyed a mooch around the historic Folkestone Harbour and Folkestone Harbour Arm. The harbour area has been brilliantly regenerated over the last 10yrs and is now a place to visit to combine with walks along the seafront, take in magnificent views of the White Cliffs and across the channel to France 🇫🇷, enjoy a wide choice of food 🍔 🧀 and drink 🍹🍷 , live music 🎸 , outdoor cinema 🎬, arts events 🎭 and other entertainment.

It’s only a 35 minute drive from us so pencil this in as a day out destination during your next Cart Stable stay.

After a busy summer ☀️ with new and familiar guests visiting from far and wide 🫶🏻, today seems to have marked the start of autumn with the wet and cooler temperatures returning.

Autumn is our favourite season here at The Cart Stable as our woodland backdrop gradually transforms into beautiful shades of gold and bronze 🍁🍂🍄‍🟫

It’s also the best time to get the wellies on 🥾, enjoy long woodland walks together 🌲🌳🦉, unwind from the stresses of the daily grind 💖, and have a well deserved refuelling stop at one of our welcoming country pubs 🍺🍷.

We are fully booked in September but fear not… we have lots of availability 🗓️ for October and November 🙌🏼 …just when you’re going to need it 😃. Wow 🤩 Last night we were treated to a rare appearance (for us) from the aurora borealis, which put on a breathtaking display in the skies above Dargate 🌈

We still have weekday and some weekend availability during the summer, so what better way to spend a few days away than the glorious countryside and right here in the Garden of England.

We can’t guarantee the northern lights again, but we can guarantee immaculate accommodation, a friendly welcome, and peace and calm to switch off from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.

Three weeks ago we collected some new girls 🐓 🐓 from Little Eaton Farm Chickens to bolster up our egg production 🥚🥚

It took the youngsters a few days to integrate with the older ladies, and be brave enough to venture into the coop at night with Colin The Cockerel 🤣 …but now they are very settled and today we had the first egg from one of them.

Full egg production will be ramped up in the next 2 weeks to provide the freshest and most golden eggs for our guests.

We are now booked out to end of May, so start thinking about the warmer (and dryer!!) days of the summer ☀️😎 and secure your Cart Stable getaway. As our reviews consistently say, you will have an egg-ceptional time!
