We love to hear all about the amazing holidays we book for our customers ✈️🌍

We had an opportunity for a quick week away and are delighted we chose to go to Madeira. The whole island was so green and clean and there is so much to do.

We took cable car from Funchal up to the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens but don’t miss the Madeira Botanical Gardens, one more cable car ride up which are a bit smaller but more intimate and have even better views if that’s possible! We also visited the lovely Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte which is worth a look while you’re up there. We then took the toboggan back down
the hill part way. A fun and unique experience that’s for sure!

We did the the east and west tours which were both spectacular in their own ways and we wouldn’t like to recommend one over the other, so do both! On the west side is Porto Moniz which has lava pools you can swim in although
these were closed due to rough seas when we visited. You get snippets of the old coast road on this tour which clings to the side of the cliffs. We certainly wouldn’t have wanted to travel along it, terrifying!

The east side has the highest peaks on the island. On the tour you get to 1810m in your vehicle and you can then take a hike to get even higher (Ben Nevis is 1345m so it’s pretty high!). The weather can be unpredictable. When
we were there you could see for miles one minute then not see your hand in front of your face the next. Take a coat, it’s a lot cooler up there and it was mega windy. The views are utterly breathtaking.

On our last afternoon we took afternoon tea at Reid’s Palace Hotel. It’s a beautiful hotel and where Winston Churchill used to stay when he visited the island. It’s a classy place, you need to book and will get turned away if you are not dressed appropriately. Utterly indulgent and not cheap but a definite experience.

If you go around Christmas time, the 1st December is when the lights get turned on and they are everywhere. It’s like Blackpool Illuminations but on every street and park, not just along the front. They pride themselves on
their Christmas lights and at New Year put on a massive firework spectacular which is why that week the most expensive time to go.

We’d like to thank Mike and Karen at Born2Travel for making the whole process so easy and for the good advice about what to do and where to go. They gauged what we wanted and got their recommendations spot on and even
booked the airport parking for us. The Barcelo Funchal Old Town hotel was in the perfect spot, right on the square with the cathedral. So central and with lots of excellent restaurants and bars within a very short walk, the fact it had a roof top pool and bar if you fancied relaxing with a book for a few hours was an added bonus. Jet2 were excellent, the airport staff were great and the planes were spotless. They even rang to check everything was OK while we were in Madeira and all information was relayed brilliantly by
them and Born2Travel for a stress free break.

We can’t wait to go back to Madeira and wouldn’t hesitate to booked with Born2Travel and Jet2 again.
