The New Forest is looking magnificent at the moment with all the new spring growth and the bluebells and wood anemones. A lovely 10 mile trip along Hampton Ridge, down into Amberwood and Slodden hearing the cuckoo to Hazley and back through the Ford at Ogdens

We had a lovely trip to Eyeworth Pond yesterday. Through Ogdens, Hasley Inclosure, Sloden Inclosure, Fritham Plain, past the pub at Fritham and down to Eyeworth Pond where we heard the cuckoo! 6.71 miles. It’s a beautiful spot with lots of parking if you come by car. After a leisurely picnic, we returned via Hampton Ridge, enjoying the most fabulous views, some say you can see both Salisbury and Bournemouth. Then down to Abbotswell and Stucton passing The Forresters pub and The Three Lions pub to home. 5.86 miles all along gravel tracks.

The race is on! 🐦👀 Which of our tagged Cuckoos is going to cross into Europe first? 😃 Cuach Torc is currently in the lead and has made it to an area near Settat, Morocco. 🙌 Trent is hot on his heels, followed by Joe who after a spell in Ivory Coast, has forged 1,391 miles north and is now just crossing into western Algeria!

Spring is sprung! It’s certainly been a soggy winter but fortunately the New Forest has miles of gravel tracks that give firm footings for walking’ cycling and carriage driving. We are lucky too that our Rally Field is on sand and gravel and is dry and available for camping for those organisations with Exemption Certificates.

We are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage following a fatal collision near Somerley.

Police were called at about 8.50am yesterday (26 February) to a report that a black Volkswagen Golf collided with a tree on Alderholt Road.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Blandford Forum, Dorset, sadly died at the scene. His family have been informed.

We have spoken to several witnesses but believe there may be other motorists who saw what happened that we have not yet spoken to.

If you witnessed this collision, have any information relevant to our investigation, or have any relevant dash cam footage, please get in touch.

You can call 101, or report online via our website, quoting reference number 44240083299

Another lovely sunset tonight. It’s that time of year when we start thinking about summer holidays but remember New Forest Edge Rally Field is only suitable for those organisations with exemption certificates. For the clubs that use it it’s very convenient being within walking distance of the town with all its facilities as the same time as beining in the countryside and only 1/2 mile from the New Forest.
