The Highland Council is considering introducing a visitor levy to our area.

I’m not in favour of the levy and have written about why I think it’s a bad idea here:

https://johncameron.substack.com/p/taxing-visitors

I’d be interested to hear what everyone else thinks about it, whether you agree with me or not! 🙂

The public consultation on the levy is open to locals and visitors to the area. It’s live until the end of March and you can have your say here:

🌿🐿️ Morning antics at Glen Nevis! 🐿️🌿

One of the resident red squirrels was caught on camera yesterday morning by Paddy from our maintenance team, showing off its climbing skills and enjoying a snack from one of our boxes. These little acrobats are always a joy to spot around the park—keep your eyes peeled when you're out and about! 👀✨

Have you seen any red squirrels during your stay? Let us know in the comments! 🏕️

While the weather is dry, Lisette and Mitch our rangers/cattle herders have been out in the Glen creating plots for our new tree islands!

Planting tree islands in the middle of our open fields will be a powerful tool for our regeneration project. These small wooded clusters will create biodiversity hotspots, offering shelter, nesting sites, and food for birds, insects, and small mammals. They act as windbreaks, reducing soil erosion and improving microclimates, which helps retain moisture and boost pasture health. Tree islands also enhance carbon sequestration, drawing down CO₂ while improving soil fertility through leaf litter and root interactions. Over time, they encourage natural regeneration, expanding habitat corridors and fostering a more resilient, self-sustaining ecosystem, as well as providing forage and shelter for our lovely herd.

The rugged beauty of Coire Dearg is on full display with its striking leucogranite crags and expansive boulder scree. These ancient rock formations, shaped by millions of years of geological processes, offer a dramatic contrast to the softer elements of the surrounding highland landscape. The pale, coarse-grained granite creates an almost otherworldly feel, making this spot a paradise for geology enthusiasts and adventurers alike.

A place where the raw power of nature and time is etched into the landscape, Coire Dearg never fails to impress.

Mountain Everlasting (Antennaria dioica) is a delicate yet resilient plant that can be found carpeting alpine meadows and rocky slopes. With its soft, silvery leaves and clusters of pink or white flower heads, it brings a subtle charm to high-altitude landscapes. Often referred to as "cat's foot" for its downy texture, this plant has long been associated with endurance and eternal beauty, living up to its name.

A perfect symbol of the quiet strength found in nature’s toughest habitats.

Captured from a distance with the magic of a zoom lens, here’s a rare glimpse of the golden eagle in its natural habitat! 🦅 Even without soaring, this incredible bird radiates power and grace, as it surveys the rugged landscape. The stunning detail allows us to admire its sharp gaze and majestic form from afar.

A true symbol of the wild Scottish highlands, the golden eagle never ceases to amaze.

The Mountain Male-fern (Dryopteris oreades) may not be found in the pages of Herbology at Hogwarts, but this resilient fern would fit right into the magical world! Thriving in the wild Scottish highlands, much like the Forbidden Forest’s mystical flora, its elegant fronds unfurl to reveal a natural beauty worthy of any enchanted setting.

Like a fern flourishing in the shadow of mountains, this plant reminds us that even in the harshest conditions, nature thrives with quiet strength—no magic spell needed.
