The magical mystical disappearing mountain, 🀣🀣 Ben Nevis.
Or is it a photo of Scotch mist?
It is amazing how quickly the mist comes down, this is one of the reasons that Ben Nevis can be so challenging to climb, why you need to be prepared for any change in weather, and wear appropriate clothing.

Reflecting on all those who have lost their lives while serving, from the onset of the First World War to the present day.

Wearing a poppy signifies support for the dedication and sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

The purple poppy has been a long-standing emblem of remembrance for animals that served, including horses, dogs, and pigeons, all of which played vital roles in the war effort.

The Black Poppy Rose honors the contributions of black, African, and Caribbean communities to the war effort, both as servicemen and servicewomen and as civilians.

The white poppy, distributed by the Peace Pledge Union, is associated with promoting peace. It commemorates those who have died in conflict while emphasizing the importance of striving for peace and rethinking our perceptions of war.

No matter which poppy you choose to wear, you are honoring the contributions of both civilian and military services that maintain national peace and security, while also recognizing the innocent civilians who have lost their lives due to conflict and acts of terrorism.

We will remember them.

Help Fort William to light up this Christmas by donating to the Fort William Festive Fund

The team are working really hard towards our Christmas Lights switch on evening.

It's not far away now so, πŸŽ… Friday 29 November πŸŽ…, is the date for your diary.

Santa is busy with the Elves making the presents, and we have music, Santa's grotto and even a doggy dress up competition being planned. With all the preparation now in place, we still need your help to pay for the lights to be installed. We have had some generous donations so far but need much more to meet our target for this year.

Please, please help us to make this evening specialπŸŽ„...

This was taken in summer this year and is a doorway to the Old Fort in Fort William. The Door Arch is 366 yrs old.

The old fort (An Gearasdan) in Fort William is well placed as a strategic strong hold. It lies at the confluence of two lochs, Loch Linnhe and Loch Eil, at the southern end of the Great Glen, affording good supply routes. The original wooden fort, known as Inverlochy Fort, was built in 1654 by General George Monck, (Cromwell’s Commander-in-chief in Scotland). It was replaced with a stone fort in 1690 under the direction of General Hugh MacKay of Scourie, in 1992, and later fortified by General Wade in 1725. The fort, was named Fort William, after King William III, with the name of Queen being bestowed on the nearby settlement of Maryburgh. The town was later named Gordonsburgh, then Duncansburgh and finally Fort William. The fort also marks the western start/end of the Great Glen Way, a 73 mile long distance route.

The fort gained notoriety for its role in the infamous Glen Coe Massacre of 1692. It was unsuccessfully besieged by the Jacobites during the uprising of 1745, and served as a disembarkation point for those travelling to America as a result of the Highland Clearances. The fort was sold by the War Office in 1864 to Christina Cameron Campbell, who converted the barrack blocks into tenant houses. This was later followed by compulsory purchase by the North Railway Company in the late 19th century that heralded the demise of the fort. The fort was gradually demolished in the early to mid 20th century, with reaming walls being knocked down in 1975. (Wildlochaber.com)
