St Catherine’s Castle. Built in the 1530’s by Henry VIII (not personally I wouldn’t have thought…) to defend the harbour. You can either take the steps directly from the beach (although they usually get taken away in the winter) or follow the footpath up between the cottages and bear left. The ruined fort looks stunning from the sea and the views out to sea and back inland across the river are well worth the short walk up. Honest.

Don’t forget to come and see us for coffee and cake after your walk!
