Bit of history…..

If you are planning on visiting one of the historical sites on the IOW❤️, then this may be of interest.

Fort Albert was one of the Royal Commission forts built in the 19th Century as part of Lord Palmerston's defences against the possibility of a French attack from Napoleon III.

Designed to defend the Needles Passage, it was completed in 1856, after 4 years of construction

It was closed to military use in 1957

The fort is in private ownership and has been converted into private apartments.

There is no public access.

"The Albion Hotel, which can lay claim to some of the best sea views on the Island, has been welcoming guests to Freshwater Bay since Victorian times. It is about to reopen under new ownership after a multimillion-pound refurbishment.🏝

"The new-look Albion will have 40 rooms, 36 of them sea-facing, including two suites, seven dog-friendly rooms and two accessible rooms. Some have roll-top baths and balconies or terraces.🏩

"The Rock is its new 100-seater restaurant, which sources more than 90% of ingredients from the Island, including garlic, tomatoes, fish, lobster and meat. A free shuttle bus drops off and picks up guests from local bars and restaurants."🦞🧄🍅

🚂 Isle of Wight Steam Railway will transport the railway back to 1967 to celebrate all things Sixties at their 1960s Weekend (1-2 June). Enjoy live entertainment around the station, with a chance to hop onboard one of the steam trains.

Fabulous views, great food and lovely staff.

They also do a breakfast.

Looking forward to getting away for Easter but don't want the hassle of driving to an airport, unexpected flight delays not to mention the costs, then come to the Isle of Wight, you will fall in love with it like we have.

We are 3 houses from the beach, water sport hut, beach bars, restaurants and a café, you can walk into Yarmouth or get the bus and of course you can drive round the Island's coastal route in a morning.

We have a lovely south facing garden and conservatory for the sunny evenings.

The minute you get on the ferry and sail 20 mins across the sea you will feel like you are already on your holiday, wrap up warm and go up to the sun deck to watch the sailing activity.

So we have had a busy weekend finalising everything ready for our Spring guests.

Bought plants in the garden centre and potted them up.

Strung festival lights around the house and it looks so lovely and welcoming.

Maybe it’s my birth sign, being a water sign, but I have this amazing pull to be by the sea, near boats and I love a harbour or marina.

That’s why we saved so hard to buy our holiday home only 3 houses from the beach.
