Just a 20- minute drive from our cottages, Dignity and Time, the festival (13th-16th June) offers a perfect day out for book lovers of all ages.

Kids go free with adults, and the children’s programme is packed with fantastic authors who will inspire and entertain.

For adults, discover the latest in fiction, current affairs, history, and more, with personalities from sport, music, and entertainment. There’s something for everyone, including local artisan food, live entertainment, and a bar for the adults!

Birds of a feather 🪶🌿

We’re thrilled to share that over 50 bird species have been sighted at Balnakeil this May alone!

For keen ornithologists, there have been a few rare birds spotted including, a snow goose and Citrine Wagtails.

Our Cattleman’s Bothy is the ideal base for exploring the breathtaking beauty and wildlife of the Scottish Highlands sleeping up to 4 adults.

We (the Elliot Kids) would like to give a sneaky shoutout to Elizabeth Elliot who doesn’t get the credit she deserves! It’s probably not been the easiest task raising the four of us, and Dad(!) whilst wearing the many hats she does and juggling many, many plates but somehow she manages to do it all with a smile on her face!

It’s World Gaelic Week!

Did YOU know the Balnakeil House bedroom pictured is named after Rob Donn (1714-1778) an important figure of Gaelic literature and arguably as important to Gaelic poetry as his contemporary Robert Burns is to Scots.

Rob Donn ended his life at Balnakeil and is buried and honoured with a memorial in the Balnakeil graveyard.

“Balnakeil is one of my favourite beaches, so I couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate my 50th birthday than the amazing Balnakeil House. Having holidayed up in NW Scotland all my life it was wonderful to share the area with 7 other couples and the house, situated right on the beach, suited us perfectly. It had everything that we needed, it’s furnished beautifully and everyone felt immediately at home. Blessed with sunny weather all week, it really was the best holiday we’ve ever had - we would all be back in a heartbeat if we could.”
