Following a long stretch of dull and overcast weather today was the first for a long time when we were able enjoy a single day of sunshine. This pic shows looking north from 's Bank Golf Course in south Glasgow.

Tonight I am departing from my usual topics to report on a poignant encounter with a distressed person in Edinburgh, Scotland.
This morning, I visited the National Museum of Scotland to view a particular exhibit. On departing the museum I crossed the road to continue with my itinerary. On proceeding along the pavement (sidewalk) I noticed a 20 something woman sitting on a step and in distress as she genuinely appeared to by crying.
Upon enquiry I was told she had just spent her first night sleeping rough on the streets following eviction from her previous lodgings. She also mentioned she could not obtain temporary hostel lodgings because a Council referral was a pre-requisite and the relevant Council department was closed for the weekend. She was also short of the necessary cash to pay for overnight lodgings elsewhere.
Living in the Glasgow conurbation I regularly encounter beggars with sob stories but this person seemed to be different for the following reasons: 1 She seemed to be in genuine distress, 2. She was not actively soliciting funds 3. She did not display the usual physical signs of drug addiction and 4. She was in a low footfall area devoid of potential donors.
In the circumstances I offered some cash to cover the shortfall for tonight's lodgings which she only reluctantly accepted. I felt sorry for her because Edinburgh is not a fun place to be for a single woman sleeping on the streets with winter approaching.
This encounter has been exercising my mind (conscience) all day. I don't think I was conned but if I was the sum involved was relatively modest.
