We're loving combining our brand new ebike tours with a visit to the wonderful - of course we're biased but combining some exercise, some cycling round the city with some social history and a wee dram or 4 is a great way to spend your day!

Thank you to Anthony from Adelaide for his fantastic testimonial! More than welcome back any time!

"Gorgeous Glasgow in a nutshell - This E-bike tour of Glasgow including Whisky tasting was a highlight of my recent visit to Scotland. My guide, from Gallus Pedals was great fun and full of knowledge and background insights into Glasgow past and present. We covered a lot of ground from the very gentrified West-side with Glasgow University and the beautiful River Kelvin precinct , along Clydebank with its shipbuilding history and modern entertainments through to the grittier industrial background of the east-side. To finish off we dropped in for an informative look at whisky production and a few wee-drams at the Clydeside Distillery. As an e-bike was provided, pedalling up hills was easy for an older bloke like me. Thanks for a fabulous view of Glasgow."

๐Ÿ‘‹ A big welcome and well done to our new guide Conor!

๐Ÿš€ Launching our new Private Electric Bike Tours of Glasgow in some style with a 5 star review from his first tour ๐Ÿ’ช

"An excellent experience with Gallus pedals rep Conor. Conor made sure that he explained in detail all that he showed us besides explaining all our doubts. He showed us photos of the places we were visiting way back in early 1930s and correlated with the present. That was amazing. The e-bikes were good to ride on as first timers. Overall the experience was excellent."

And yep, we recommend that all guests from now on dress in red as it looks fantastic in pics.

Thank you to Rekha and Sai for joining us - safe travels back to India!

Whilst we are loving the sunshine of the past week, one thing that we do particularly well is finding nice cosy spots across the city to get warm in...and on this day, we needed it!

Here, our lovely guests from Barcelona got their first taste of haggis in . We told them it's a bit like morcilla (black pudding) but didn't encourage any more questions :)

We did this in 100% fluent Spanglish - we'll be launching some foreign language tours soon!

Got to take our hats off to our recent guests from Frankfurt ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

As teenagers these guys had helped to build a boat in their friends' back yard and now years later (not toooo many!) they all get together to take the same boat sailing round the beautiful Hebridean Islands of Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ

They also completed what is in our view the perfect Glasgow hat trick for visitors and locals alike - bike tour, great food and pints!

Highly recommended for anyone looking for an alternative team day out!"

We had the pleasure of doing a quick cycle tour of some of the best sights in Glasgow and Sandy / .pilates today.ย

We spoke about how Glasgow was formed, how it developed, famous Glaswegians, general life in Glasgow, and of course, some of the large sporting events held in the city.ย

As ever, we aim to 'make locals feel like tourists and tourists feel like locals' - all from the comfort of our reconditioned ex post office bikes...however we love giving visitors a different perspective of Glasgow and shining a light on some of the really great aspects of the city.ย

Not that you guys need it, but good luck for the rest of the ,ย ย  , and your next project.

How 'Big Rachel' stopped The Partick Riots on this day in 1875!

Pipe-smoking Rachel Hamilton (1829-1899) was born in Ireland but later settled in Partick.

At 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) tall and weighing around 17 st (110 kg), she was known as 'Big Rachel'! She held a variety of jobs considered unusual for women at the time, including working as a labourer in Tod and Macgregor's shipyard, as a forewoman navvy in the brickworks at Jordanhill, and as a farm labourer in Anniesland. When the Partick Riots broke out in 1875, Rachel was one of around 30 locals sworn in by Partick Police as Special Constables to help drive the rioters back.

Events started on 6th August, the centenary of Daniel Oโ€™Connelโ€™s birth. He was a legendary Irish political leader who had been instrumental in the passing of the Catholic Emancipation Act in 1829. The Irish community staged a rally on Glasgow Green and a march to Partick. A large crowd, including supporters of the Orange Lodge, formed to protest. Three days of rioting followed. However, once Rachel and the other Special Constables were recruited, they proved terrifying enough to drive the mob back towards the city centre and the violence dissipated.

Big Rachelโ€™s reputation in this episode lived on even after her death in 1899 โ€“ aged 70 at a time when the life expectancy of working-class women wasn't much beyond 50.

She was honoured in a 2022 with a mural on Purdon Street, next to Partick Library, which depicts a towering woman surrounded by bright flowers and lush greenery. Artist Molly Hankinson explained that she had two women in mind from Partick past and present: Big Rachel and Margaret Thomson who used to run the ukulele club in the Partick Annexe. Hankinson said it was a โ€œnice way of subtly paying homage to these womenโ€

We think her life is such a fascinating story that whenever we need to use some of the larger bikes within our fleet for one of our bike tours - we get to relay some of the stories behind Big Rachel!

Thanks to Marsch at Glasgow for researching and writing our blog!

Was a wee bit nervous about taking guests out today with all the road closures for however it actually works out pretty well once you know the spots where you can cross the road route. Looking forward to catching some of the action even closer up than this pic - you can just about make out one of the riders as he's whizzing past. Reckon we've found the perfect spot and perhaps more importantly, a friendly steward :)
