McKinlay Kidd

McKinlay Kidd Holidays made differently in Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales & The Channel Islands. That’s what we mean by holidays made differently.

McKinlay Kidd, launched in 2003 by husband and wife team Robert Kidd and Heather McKinlay, is dedicated to helping independently-minded visitors get the most out of their holiday. We started out in true small-business style in the dining room of our (then) Edinburgh home, and now employ a team of more than a dozen, mainly based at our office in central Glasgow. From day one, our principle has been

that we won’t send you anywhere we haven’t been ourselves. Initially we focussed on helping our customers to see Scotland differently, with a range of creative holiday suggestions that could be tailored to specific requirements. We added Ireland in 2010, England in 2016, Wales in 2018 and most recently the Channel Islands on 2022. Heather is half-Scottish, half-English, while Robert is Irish, and between the two of us we have lived for at least 20 years in each country. We started the company because we wanted to help visitors see beyond the landscapes and tourist hotspots of these lands, whether of our birth (England and Ireland) or our present-day home (Scotland).

Where breath-taking beauty meets fascinating geology, discover the dramatic sea-carved cliffs at Eshaness 🌄

Eshaness boasts one of the highest energy coastlines in the world and tells the story of a long-extinct volcano. The peninsula was formed around 360 million years ago when Shetland lay near the Equator.

Has anyone visited the spectacular Eshaness cliffs on their McKinlay Kidd holiday?👣

Where can you spot them?👀

📍They are known to flock to the cliffs of Shetland and Orkney and the islands to the west of Mull every year.

Two Scottish beaches named among the best five in the world by Condé Nast Traveller UK 🌊🥇🏖️

For the second year, Luskentyre Beach on Harris and The Sands of Breckon on the Shetland island of Yell have been included in the prestigious list.

What do these world-renowned beaches have in common? Natural, untouched beauty.

Luskentyre Beach is described as a slice of heaven - with expansive stretches of white sands that ripple down to breathtaking turquoise waters.

Similarly, The Sands of Breckon boasts pristine white sand that melts into clear waters surrounded by swathes of green pastures. Archaeological remains suggest that the area has been settled for at least 4,000 years.

The story of St Patrick has captivated the world for centuries. Patrick left his mark on many locations across the Emerald Isle.

From the breathtaking Rock of Cashel in Co. Tipperary to the magnificent peak of Croagh Patrick in Co.Mayo, a site of pilgrimage for many. In Northern Ireland, his legacy lives on within the tiny Saul Church, built on the site of Patrick's first church in Ireland and in the Down Cathedral where he was laid to rest.

The island of Ireland is an extremely special place that we feel lucky to have been exploring for over 15 years ☘️

Happy St David's Day!🌼🌞

Every year on the 1st of March, we celebrate the patron saint of Wales. Born in the year 500, the grandson of the King of Ceredigion - St David became a well-known preacher and chose the beautiful region of Pembrokeshire for his monastery.

Today, St David's Cathedral stands on the site of the 6th-century monastic settlement in Britain’s smallest city.

Would you venture along the daring Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge?👣

📍 Swaying 100 ft above the ocean, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge has woven its way between Carrick Island and the County Antrim mainland for over 250 years.

The origins of the bridge date back to 1755, when generations of fishermen relied on the bridge as the perfect spot for catching salmon.
