Over two decades ago, Andrew Wakefield (former doctor) managed to publish a small study in one of the most well respected medical journals that has become one of the most notorious and damaging pieces of research in medicine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The study involved 12 children and suggested there’s a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. What wasn’t known at the time is that not only was he paid by a medical negligence lawyer to find evidence that the MMR vaccine was harmful, but he also filed a patent for a single measles vaccine in direct competition with the MMR jab. Further still, he unethically paid children of his choosing for blood samples at his own son’s birthday party. You’ll be glad to hear that he was eventually struck off as a doctor, yet his work has fuelled a dangerous movement of vaccine skepticism and refusal around the world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There has not been a single credible study that has shown a risk of MMR causing autism, despite tens of millions of children around the world receiving the vaccine. On the contrary, numerous high-quality research studies support the safety of MMR. In 2003, following an extensive review of the data, including systematic reviews by the Cochrane Collaboration, the World Health Organization stated categorically there was no evidence to suggest MMR causes autism. Nothing since has show anything to the contrary.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Moving on from autism, are vaccines safe? Damn straight they are. Minor reactions like soreness, redness or fever happen at around 1-5 in 1000 depending on the vaccine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Serious reactions to vaccines happen, on average, in 1 in 1 million doses. That’s 0.0001% of the time. Crossing the street is more dangerous than that.

Yesterday the UK lost its ‘measles free’ status. This is not a joke. Children and adults will continue to die of a disease that is ENTIRELY preventable unless we stop being complicit with our silence. Shout about this. Now is not the time to look the other way.
