Lots of goodies in the latest batch of transfers delivered last week to Sunrise, with a mix of new and reprinted items.

Alexander bluebird logos; Bluebird Northern; Bristol VR badges; Fife Scottish; Kelvin Scottish; rear light sets; South Notts; and Stevenage Superbus are back in stock now, while there are new Caledonian Travel; East Midland; Mansfield & District; Rhondda; SB Travel; Stagecoach fleetnames, logos and straplines; and West Coast Motors items.

Not to mention a tax disc/PSV licence set; illegible legal addresses; and a host of new manufacturers' badges including ALX200/300/400/500; Beadle; Perkins; Plaxton; Pointer; President; Trident - there are now 127 manufacturers' badge transfers listed by Sunrise, and all but two or three are in stock now.

All of this has allowed an update to the Catalogue 14 Supplement issued last month, so that it now includes all new items from May 2020 up to December 2021. If anyone wants a look at it, it can be requested by message here or email to [email protected]

Next new kit release from Sunrise should be available next week and is Kit 68 of Glasgow Corporation Transport's ten 1958 Burlingham-bodied BUT single-deck trolleybuses which were used to replace tram service 12 (Mount Florida-Paisley Road Toll or Linthouse) by trolleybus service 108 in November that year.
They were specially sanctioned by the Ministry of Transport to be built to a length of 34' 10" as an experiment, at a time when the maximum length permitted was 30', and they paved the way for the regulations to be changed to permit 36' buses and coaches. The route on which they were used was circumferential, inter-suburban in nature, avoiding the city centre, and this may have been stipulated as part of the trial.
The demonstrator model is based on TBS13, which is preserved in Glasgow's Museum of Transport. The kit includes chassis detail, printed glazing, etched Burlingham front motif, LBC trolleybus overhead kit, and a full set of transfers. Those who ordered the kit will be contacted from next week.

The first steps are being taken to integrate the Sunrise and recently acquired MBC Decals ranges of transfers. Some MBC items will be renumbered into the Sunrise series, and there will be some slight standardisation of prices. A week today and Sunrise will be at Lathalmond again for the annual Open Weeekend and Collectors' Fair. It takes place on Saturday/Sunday 17/18 August, featuring vehicle displays, guided tours, preserved bus services including a shuttle to/from Dunfermline bus station. Further details are available on the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum website. And Sunrise will be in the Top Shed on both days, offering its usual range of kits and transfers for sale.

Coming soon - the long awaited Sunrise Kit 4 of the Glasgow Corporation Transport-style Weymann double-deckers of the 1937-40 period, many of which lasted with GCT till the mid-50s, while others saw service with a host of independents such as A1 Service, AA Motors, Clyde Coast, Cunningham, Garner, Hutchison, Paton etc. - plus many south of the border.
The first samples have arrived, so the kit should be available within the next month or two with a choice of AEC, Albion, Daimler or Leyland fronts, and bespoke transfer sets will be produced for the kit. This official AEC photograph shows GCT's 537 (BUS 103) before delivery in April 1938, just a few weeks before the Empire Exhibition opened at Bellahouston Park. The streamlining in the livery echoed that on GCT's new Coronation trams entering service at that time.

Alexander J-type (the A-type was 8' wide and the J-type 8' 2.5" wide, but otherwise similar) Leyland Atlantean LA536 (XGA 34J) of Greater Glasgow PTE, photographed by David G Wilson in Clyde Street in March 1976. A Langside Garage bus for most of its life in the city, it was new to Glasgow Corporation Transport in 1970 and rebuilt from dual-door to single-door layout in 1974, then sold in 1981.
With around 0.8mm difference in width in scale terms, the forthcoming 1/76th scale Sunrise Kit 51 is appropriate for both the A-type and J-type, and will offer a wide range of body type, window/door configuation, front panel, engine cover etc options.
