🚌 Rick Steves' Europe
Sometimes on tour you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. (And it helps if you check what’s on and plan ahead smartly 😉). Today we were lucky enough to catch the opening parade of the Inveraray Highland Games 😀😀😀

Song: Caledonia by Dougie MacLean 🏴
I had a swell time working with Rick Steves and his ninja film crew, producer Simon and cameraman Karel, this summer. Here’s a wee “behind-the-scenes” compilation of our 2 week trip around Scotland. The three TV shows that will come out of our hard work will air on PBS towards the end of this year, and will then be available online at a later date.. start of next year. Stay tuned!

What does a Scottish tourist guide do on holiday in Germany?
Sing Johnny Cash songs at karaoke in a big Berlin park, of course! 😆

It was a real honour to be interviewed by Dave Broom for coming-soon whisky documentary movie “The Amber Light” 💡
Regardless of wether or not I make it to the final cut it was a privilege to be even slightly involved 😀

Lyrics:
I've got a mate who's a shaman
Gets anything you want in no time
A weekend at Bernie's
Is a few days without any sunshine
I know a right dour-faced b*stard
A really nice guy but he hates life
He's got sarcastic eyeballs
And a tongue that can slash like a lock-knife
These faces I've known
Growing up on the streets in the Southside
From the hills of the 'milk
To the parade in the east end
I remember the change
In the accents on the Westside
Making money 'til there's no time left to spend
It's all b*llsh*t but we all still pretend
When I was a wean
I used to sell puff to make money
But we'd smoke all the profit
And by Friday it was no longer funny
I know a guy who's a lightweight
One or two jars and he's buckled
He's the guy that loses keys has to
Break into his own house and gets huckled
These faces I've known
Growing up on the streets in the Southside
From the swords in the schemes
To the art-school dreams of the town
And when I lie awake in the night time
These things I remember
Some happy, some sad
Bring a smile to my face when I'm down
In the Priory or in Sinbad's in Dunoon
I've been all round the world, but
There's nowhere compares to my hometown
The mayhem of Glasgow is buried deep in my blood
And there's no other place where 'a c*nt' might not be a put down
It's thirteen degrees and there's folk in the street in the scud
No' the best place, but there's diamonds in the mud
No' the best place, but there's diamonds in the mud
No' the best place, but there's diamonds
Whilst filming with Rick Steves’ TV crew on Buchanan Street we happened to stumble upon one of Glasgow’s most talented buskers.... my cousin David Mairs!
Cameraman Karel recorded a few different angles and soundbites of David’s performance as an example of Glasgow’s love of live music!
The show is due for broadcast across the USA on PBS later this year.
David was as surprised as I was to see us! Cheers cuz!! 😁🎤🎼
This busy bend in the road is at a verrrry popular beauty spot on The Isle of Skye - THE QUIRAING!
I stood here for a minute and watched the cars carefully manoeuvring round the bend. You’ll see the view at the end which shows why people make the journey up here!
