Shamba Barn is nestled in the garden of Bond End Farm, a Grade II listed 400-year-old quintessential 'chocolate box' house set in an acre of beautiful landscaped and wild grounds. Retaining many of its original features, including the Well and orchard of apples, pears, plums, and a variety of berries and soft fruits, the old farm is seeped in history and lovingly preserved character. s believed to have been the farm's apple barn; old cider mill stones are scattered in the garden. It has been lovingly converted to provide a delightful one double bedroom holiday cottage, fitted and furnished to a luxury standard. It's perfect for all seasons, with the gardens bursting with a large variety of plants and bird-life, often visited by deer, pheasant and rabbits. The large private patio, equipped with fire pit, is fragrance by scented roses in the summer and is a warm sun-trap, perfect for watching colourful sunsets. Cosy up, light the fire and settle in for games, reading or just good company. It's good for your soul to switch off and get-away :-)

The village has a Post Office and general store for essentials, plus the Portland Farm Shop, just a stroll across the fields, provides delicious local meat and produce. Shamba Barn is perfectly located to enjoy both rural and urban delights. The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the buzz, shopping and festivals of the cities of Gloucester and Cheltenham - or Bristol & Bath - are all within easy reach. Walking, cycling, riding, skiing, Cotswold villages & pubs, shopping, eating, horse riding & racing, culture, theatre, even cheese-rolling are all on offer. The barn's features include:

- Open plan living room/kitchen with wood-burning stove. A beautiful 1920s Steamer Trunk is packed with games.

- Mezzanine bedroom in the eaves with a King Size reclaimed solid wood bed and lovely views across the garden, blue tooth speaker.

- Delightful bathroom with roll top bath, bowl basin & separate shower with romantic lighting. Enjoy the beautiful aspect across the garden during your morning shower or just gaze at the stars while relaxing in the bath. Complimentary Neal's Yard Remedies Organic luxury natural products will nourish your body and soul.

- Fully equipped kitchen with holiday essentials including dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine, integrated wine rack and wine fridge.

- Private large outdoor patio with fire pit.

Shamba means 'Farm' in Swahili, reflecting the African connections of the owner. All the furnishings and contents have a story and we hope that our guests find their time in the Barn holds a special place in their own journey or story, whatever the occasion. So, 'Karibu!', Swahili for 'Welcome!'.

10 years ago JuIie and Andy renovated a derelict apple barn in what would have been Bond End Farm’s orchard. As a Grade II listed building, we worked closely with the Listing department to nourish and restore its 4 beautiful Cotswold stone walls, retain its old solid beams and original barn door (which is our logo) and love it back to life.

Shamba Barn was created with our own hand-sketched designs, determination and an awful lot of hands-on hard graft. ‘Shamba’ means ‘farm’ in Swahili, reflecting Julie’s African childhood and Bond End Farm’s 400 year history.

It has become a special haven for guests over the years who have rested and restored their souls, spent peaceful time in the gardens with the company of the birds, deer and rabbits, enjoyed the harvest of fruits from the variety of abundant trees in the orchard, celebrated special times and generally just slowed down.

The genuine care and attention to detail and ensuring everyone who visits has a memorable and special time has been Shamba Barn’s pride. Shelly joined us a few years ago with her wonderful attention to detail in making the barn immaculate and the most welcoming it could possibly be. She is now taking over full management of Shamba Barn. All the contact details remain the same, and Shamba Barn barn will be open full time to welcome guests.

🌿 The Buckholt woods that stretch across the Cotswold Way above Shamba Barn are at their most splendid at this time of year. One of the finest examples of Beech woods in Europe, you can roam their wonderful fresh green canopy and blue carpet of blue bells for hours🪻 The Cotswold Way runs for 100 miles - no limits to simply ambling or serious walking!

Just don’t forget to stop off at the across the fields from Shamba Barn for yummy coffee and cake and some fine produce for dinner on the terrace as you watch the sun set over the garden, enjoy the fire pit and reminisce your day’s adventures 🔥🥂

Henry VIII is rumoured to have stayed at Bond End Farm when it was a guest house during one point in its 400-year history! Shamba Barn is the old apple barn nestled in the Farm’s beautiful garden, which still has some of the original orchards Perhaps it would have provided King Henry with fine cider on a soggy Sunday as he drew himself in front of the fire to settle in! 🔥

Today’s guests can cosy up in front of the log burner, relax in the roll top bath while the rain pitter patters on the windows, or snuggle up in bed and watch a movie…perfect soggy Sunday night 🛁🥂😁
