We had a wonderful couple of trips out of Fishguard this week on our Strumble head voyage.

We were joined on our trips by some of the interns from Sea Trust, and also a playful pod of Common Dolphin, who were busy feeding in the harbour, before interacting with our vessel, as we headed out toward Strumble Head Lighthouse. 🐬

Next stop Fishguard!
Shearwater has been relaunched and is currently waiting for her mooring to be serviced then she will be returning to Fishguard for the season! We have had a few delays in getting her ready, but she’s now raring to go and ready for the Whitsun break. Our first trips are scheduled for Monday 27th and you can book on line via the link below.

Humpy’s Journey!

From our sightings, your sightings, and reports off our sightings page Pembrokeshire Porpoise, Whale & Dolphin Sightings we have made a small poster showing where the humpback whale was seen in and around Fishguard!🐋

The humpback was mainly seen in the Fishguard Bay from the inner breakwater, outer breakwater, the fort, and from Harbour Village over 8 days!

First seen on the 19th January 2024 and last seen on 27th January 2024 🌊

As the weather is about to become more autumnal, we will be taking Shearwater out of the water this Tuesday. We have trips scheduled for 10:00 and 11:30 that morning, which will be your last chances this season for one of Strumble head rhib trips. We Will however e able to offer some trips from Fishguard on our traditional vessel Blue Shark on selected days until January.

Atlantic bluefin tuna at Strumble Head 🐟

Our team had an exciting sighting on survey yesterday. After some unexplained splashing throughout the first half of the survey, the team then saw a tuna leap from the water several times. 🌊

Atlantic bluefin tuna have only recently returned to UK waters, with the species mostly disappearing from our seas in the 1960s due to overfishing. Sightings are still relatively rare around Wales, and the team were very excited to have spotted one. Especially survey lead Nadia, with her first ever tuna sighting! 🐟

Unfortunately, we weren't quick enough to get a photo of the animal (photo below is not ours), although there is hope for the future as their numbers increase! 📷

Mondays trip saw Bottlenose dolphins and Rissos dolphins on the same trip. Chris had also found a Manx shearwater wandering around the harbour, it was taken out to Strumble head to be released to join the rest of the Shearwaters as they head south for the winter.
Tomorrow is looking like the best day of the week for sailings and we have a few spaces still available.
