Good evening New Meridian Members
It's now time to take a cool break in the shade, with a glass of your favourite iced tipple ready for a leisurely read of the following update from our Chair, Sylvia Saxon:

Dear All
I hope you are all well and keeping cool in these extraordinary high temperatures.

Sadly I have to report, that as from immediate effect, our Membership Secretary Christine Taylor, is having to stand down due to personal circumstances. I would like to thank Chris for all her hard work and completely understand and support her as it was not an easy decision for her to make. I will be taking the role for the foreseeable future.

Up until now, Meridian has always had a rolling membership. We thought this was the fairest way to run our Association, but unfortunately it has meant a lot of work for the Membership Secretary to keep everything up-to date. If I am honest, this has not really worked as we had hoped, so after speaking to members of our committee, memberships will now be paid annually on the 1st September. If I can therefore ask you to make your payment of £25 (no increase for five years!) either by BACS (preferable) to: The Meridian Association Account No. 33642360 Sort Code 30-90-92 OR by cheque, written to The New Meridian Association and sent to me at 66 Layton Road, Parkstone, Poole, Dorset BH12 2BL.
Most of our members renew in September, when we launched New Meridian.
If you have joined and paid since September 2021, our treasurer will pay you back pro rata.

If you pay by 26th September, you will be sure to appear in our latest Handbook. This is very important if you wish to remain a member, as we have so many things coming up in the next year, it's really quite amazing!
I have been busy recruiting lots of new Business Partners who really want to get involved with us and our groups.
Only yesterday I had a meeting with Ian Marsh (Staycation) and the Groups Manager of Condor, as they are hoping to take us on a FAM trip to Guernsey.

Emerald Cruises are re-scheduling their FAM trip to next year and Ambassador Cruise Line will now be hosting our AGM (details will follow with confirmation of price).
With trips to Silverstone & Blenheim Palace, Mark Smith from Continuum, is going to launch something very special for us!
Don't forget Dan Savage’s London for Groups Show being held on the 6th September, so please do try to come to this one.
We have so much on offer over the coming months, with new ideas, the chance to see a West End Show, plus a Uber Cruise and various other attractions to sample. These are just for starters, because we have so many offers on the table it's difficult to keep-up!!
So, at last things are getting back to normal and it really is wonderful to be able to travel once again with our groups!

Cruising is back ...... and Fred. Olsen is currently promoting it's fleet of four beautiful ships - favourites Braemar & Balmoral, plus the latest additions launched in 2021 - Bolette & Bolearis!

It was a real privilege for Lin Wilson of Solent Events on Tour to be invited to Southampton for a ship visit on board Bolette. THE TRAVEL WEEKLY 2022 GLOBE TRAVEL AWARDS - last night .....
Lin Wilson of Solent Events & Leisure/On Tour writes says "It was a real privilege to be invited by Wendy Wu Tours to the Globe Travel Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel last night. I cannot thank them enough for including me in this prestigious event".
It was such an uplifting, positive event to kick-start everyone in the Travel Industry to travel the world once again. The whole evening was just magical from start to finish.
With Wendy Wu Tours winning TWO Globe Awards and a host of stars to entertain ..... mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, comedian Tom Allen, soul singer Heather Small and TV presenter, Rylan Clark-Neal ... PLUS Lin winning a fantastic spot-prize - a place on the new Wendy Wu Victoria Mekong River Cruise ship, it was a truly amazing experience ...... and a wonderful evening, nit to be forgotten.
"The Travel Weekly 'Globes' took place in front of more than 1,200 guests at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, with a star-studded line-up of entertainment.
Renowned mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins opened the show in partnership with Imagine Cruising and Imagine Holidays, while comedian Tom Allen joined Virgin Atlantic and soul singer Heather Small had the crowd on their feet in association with Royal Caribbean International.
Awards were based on tens of thousands of votes from frontline travel agents, who recognised the suppliers who had done the most to support them during the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. They were hosted by TV and radio presenter Rylan Clark, alongside Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley.
Jet2.com picked up the Best Short-Haul Airline award, while sister operator Jet2holidays was named Best Short-Haul Operator and Best Trade-Friendly Brand, before collecting the coveted Trade Sales Team of the Year honour.
Other multiple award winners were Wendy Wu Tours, which was named Best Premium Touring Company & Best Long-Haul Specialist Operator; Emirates, which picked up Best Long-Haul Airline and Best Premium Airline Service awards".

New Meridian Fam Trip to the Bournemouth and Poole Area
Tuesday 26th April

Hi Everyone
Hope you are all well and staying safe. I can now share the completed arrangements for our Dorset Fam trip with you!

The day will start at 10am with a meet & greet at The Marsham Court Hotel, Bournemouth with some light refreshments to start the day.
10.30 Our Excelsior executive coach will collect us from the hotel for a mystery journey around the local area, expertly guided by General Manager Paul Knight.
12.45 Arrive at Poole Quay to board the Poole City Cruises Solent Scene for a sail around the stunning islands. Fish & chip lunch will be provided.
15.00 Back on our coach to return to the hotel for a cream tea at 15.30 followed by a presentation by Ian Marsh of Holiday Club Staycation, Heather Egerton & Carol Scott of Poole City Cruises and Jane Swift Business Development Manager of The Marsham Court Hotel.

What an exciting start to 2022 for one of our New Meridian Members!

Solent Events & Leisure/On Tour of Gosport is proud to have been successful in applying for the Government's Additional Recovery Grant (ARG) for small Businesses!
Opting to spend it on a BIG advertising campaign, not normally affordable for a small, independent business, proprietor Lin Wilson has been busy securing a large Advertising Billboard and several Magazine slots, plus Newsletters, Leaflets, Business Cards and Flyers, to promote her current Theatre Trips, Away-Days and Short Break & Holidays.

With the prospect of attracting new, fun-loving clients, the billboard was designed by Lin herself and printed by local printer, Stanbury Chameleon. Images were kindly supplied by Success Tours (main image - Croatia); Switzerland Travel Centre and Panache Coach Travel.

The Billboard is ideally situated at the entrance to a very busy Retail Park, offering big name stores such as M & S Food; Lidl; Iceland; Costa Coffee; Jollyes Pet Store, McDonald's and B & M, with a Premier Inn and Starbucks just opposite!

After two difficult years of travel, Lin is hoping this will boost her clientele database for 2022 and the foreseeable future.

AWARD NOMINATION FOR GREAT SERVICE IN THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY from Anu of ITO Tours

Hello to all New Meridian Members
I've seen so many great stories on some of the travel Facebook sites this year. These stories have reflected the hard work and great service passengers have received from travel industry employees whilst away on a Short Break.
I wanted to do something that would, in some small way, say thank you, as well as salute all those travel industry staff who worked so hard in 2021, looking after those passengers who, against all odds, were lucky enough to get away in 2021.
I spoke to the fantastic Dan Wilson (Vine Hotels Regional General Manager) and gently twisted his arm to donate an award for the ‘BEST SERVICE' given by a Travel Trade professional in 2021.
This award would be for the person who had the best smile, the kindest words or a gesture that made you step back and think WOW! In other words, someone you feel went above and beyond their job description to help you and your fellow passengers have a great time!
Dan loved the idea and agreed to donate this award, offering a COMPLIMENTARY 2- NIGHT STAY for 2 people on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast tariff for the 1st-night and Bed/Breakfast on the second night. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and may I wish you all the very best for 2022. Lets hope it will be a much better one ..... allowing us all to do what we love doing best!

DEVON - MARCH FAM TRIP
Yippee We have been given 10 twin rooms for our Devon FAM trip, so if this is anything like the last one, we will be in for a real treat!
I will be calling everyone who has already registered their interest within the next couple of days. The full itinerary will be emailed as soon as I receive it. Just to remind you of the dates .... 15th to 18th March.
We shall be staying in two Brend Hotels. One for 2-nights at the Imperial Hotel, Barnstaple and another for 1-night at the Devon Exeter Hotel with one dinner and our Gala Dinner at The Park Hotel.

BOURNEMOUTH HOTEL NEW AVAILABILITY 2022
Jane Swift of the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth runs a really lovely, family hotel, where we had a Christmas FAM a few years ago.
Sadly Jane has been let down due to a large allocation release, so now has availability for a midweek Holly & Ivy Tour in November 2022! 4-nights with live entertainment every night, plus afternoon tea each day, from only £58.00 pppn. Prices are based on 2-guests sharing a standard inland double/twin bedded room on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis. APRIL FAM DAY-TRIP
In fact if you come on our FAM Day on Tuesday 26th April, you will have the pleasure of meeting Jane and seeing the lovely Marsham Court Hotel.
Included on the FAM day will be a Poole City Cruise (with Fish & Chips, courtesy of Heather at Poole City Cruises), an Excelsior Coach tour around the local area and a presentation at the hotel by Ian Marsh of Holiday Club Staycation, who has organised the event.
Jane & Heather will have the opportunity to tell us what they have to offer our discerning Group Travel Organisers and how a trip to Dorset might be just what your group might be looking for! It may also be possible to obtain some special rates if you would like to stay overnight. I could perhaps arrange something for us in the evening.

EXCURSIONS TRAVEL SHOW
You will probably be aware that the new date for Excursions 2022 is now Saturday 19th March. It will remain at its new venue - Twickenham Stadium and will bring together over 150 exhibitors from around the UK. More information to follow soon from Tourism South East.
As you know, I do try to put out an Eblast every couple of weeks to keep everyone in the New Meridian Association informed on what's happening in the Group Travel Industry, so if you have anything you would like included please let me know.
Of course we still circulate the Meridian Lines Newsletter every 3-months and the Yearly Handbook annually.

I'm also delighted to say we are still the fastest growing Group Travel Organisation, with the most active GTO’s! We have just recruited some super interesting new members, so watch this space!

POLITE REMINDER
A few of our members are a little behind with paying their annual subscription. Please look out for an email from our membership secretary, Chris Taylor, who will kindly ask for your payment.
It is still only £25 for GTO’s; £30 for profit making GTO’s and ONLY £100 for Business Partners/Suppliers - less than £9 per month!
There's no 'joining fee' either! At such a low-cost, just think what you would be missing by NOT joining us!

NO NEW RESTRICTIONS IN ENGLAND ..... great news for all the current tours scheduled over the next week or so!
Many of us were really pleased that we were able to do ALL our tours and day-trips before Christmas, but as the coming week is when many of us normally start planning our NEW Theatre Trips & Away-Days for the coming months, maybe there is a bit of reluctance this year .... at least until any New Year restriction announcements are made?
Perhaps we will just have to be content with the Day Trips already in planned and sold ....?
