Grantown is full of interesting businesses and Discover Grantown is always delighted to provide an introduction on Meet the Business Monday.

This week, we visit one of our award-winning shops on the High Street - the much-loved Ewe & Me, where the shelves (and windows) are always full of treasures!

Owner Janet Hartree says: "Ewe & Me started in Gairloch in 1982, hoping to fill the gift shopping needs of both the locals and visitors. That still is the aim today. We fill the shop with the best Scottish crafts and gifts we can find and those we love from further afield.

"We have hand painted pottery from Highland Stoneware, jewellery from Sheila Fleet Orkney, handmade bothies and silk scarves, and aromatherapy soaps. Also, handbags, purses and toiletries. And we always have clothes for the changing seasons."

"We are always ready to welcome you.'

Feels like autumn is here and we're dreaming of long walks in the forests. The light will turn magical in the next few weeks, especially with the sun setting earlier. Love the tall pines at golden hour!

Hope you enjoyed the small burst of sunshine at the weekend!

Today's Meet the Business is a new member of the Grantown Business Association.

There’s been a pretty addition to Grantown Caravan Park – a cute wee cupboard that is full of delicious treats. Heather runs Little bakes cake cupboard , adding sweet treats to the cupboard every day. And she’s now supplying Fiona's Wholefoods and Refills with some of her bakes as well!

Heather said: “I have always loved baking, there’s nothing quite like cake to bring pleasure and joy and a sometimes much needed moment of calm.

“Whether it's a quiet moment with a cup of tea or spending quality time with friends and family, cake makes everything better! I started little bakes cake cupboard with the aim of making quality fresh cake readily available and bringing that comforting feeling to everyday life.

“My little cake cupboard has been lovingly decorated to encompass that peaceful vibe and creating a little cake haven. Based at Grantown on Spey Caravan Park, there’s no crowds or queues or noisy tills, just you and the simple pleasure of choosing your cake and enjoying your own little mindful moment.”

You can find little bakes cake cupboard outside reception at Grantown on Spey Caravan Park now!

Happy Monday to you all! Instead of Meet the Business, today we're inviting you to meet the artists.

There is no shortage of artistic talent in Strathspey and next week, you will be able to go behind the scenes of a host of creative studios in the town and beyond.

North East Open Studios (NEOS) is an annual event that showcases artists and makers across the north-east. A total of 300 people will open the doors of their workspaces to the public from September 7 to 15.

And this year, there is a significant cluster in Grantown, Nethy Bridge and Boat of Garten. You might start to notice a few yellow signs around the place, directing you to the venues. But there's also a handy guidebook that you can pick up at various places around the town.

The full list of Strathspey creatives taking part in NEOS is: Jane Fox (Wildcat Pots), Helen Geddes, Angus Grant, Jess Greaves, Wendy Grosvenor, Jess Greaves, Naomi Huq, Rona Kant, Graham Niven, Chris Rose, Ian Williams, Sheena Wilson and Joanna Wilson.

We'd suggest making a day of it and following this creative trail around the town and through Strathspey, enjoying breaks at some of our wonderful cafes along the way.

She is dedicated to helping local businesses in the Highlands and across the North of Scotland bring their sustainability messages to life and engage with their target audience.

Jennifer says: “My passion is saving the planet, one business at a time.
“I want to bring sustainable thinking into all the marketing I do, to effect positive change and ensure their businesses are future-proof, and to help businesses by marketing effectively to their customers with maximum impact.

It’s Meet the Business Monday here in Grantown, a regular series dedicated to introducing you to some of the members of the town’s business association.

Grant Arms Hotel is a long-established resident of the Square, with many years experiences of welcoming UK and international guests and tour groups. Built in 1765, this four-star establishment is renowned for its past royal visitors and for its excellent food – did you know the restaurant was awarded one AA Rosette? You can enjoy bar lunches from Monday to Saturday and Sunday lunch is served from 12noon until 2pm.

With 51 bedrooms, the hotel is also wheelchair-accessible, with three enabled rooms for disabled guests. There are also a number of rooms that have a walk-in shower.
The hotel is also dog friendly, although furry guests are not allowed in the restaurant – the bar, however is open to those with pets. Marion Muller, the general manager since April 2023, said: “We are also establishing a whisky snug for private tastings."

And of course, the hotel is also known for its status as a wildlife hotel, offering unique experiences to its guests through the Bird and Wildlife Watching Club. As well as local wildlife guides being on hand to give advice on where to go, the BWWC offers a range of walks and field trips. And there are regular celebrity-led wildlife holidays, including breaks with Nigel Marven, Nick Baker, Iolo Williams and David Lindo. The club has an extensive library of books and publications for guests and most evenings, there are showings of wildlife documentaries. Guides also give evening talks (which are sometimes open to the general public)

Today's Meet the Business feature is sure to have you salivating....

Welcome to FEAST Tulchan - a restaurant rooted firmly within the estate.

If it has been reared, grown, harvested, farmed or foraged on Tulchan, expect to see it headlining the FEAST menu throughout the year.

The estate says: "As the name may suggest, we serve FEAST style; large sharing plates, plenty of sides and a selection of mains for a set price (£50). There is no menu – let us know of any dietary requirements when you book, then all you have to do is arrive, and let us surprise you with inspirational creations from the kitchen."

The restaurant is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings & Sunday lunch Visit www.tulchan.com/feast for more information.

And you can also take Tulchan home!

The estate says: "We are incredibly lucky to have a wonderful larder of seasonal, sustainable ingredients on the Estate, which you can now take home in a monthly subscription meat box (£67.50). Made up of a selection of prime and every day cuts, the boxes may contain beef, lamb, hoggat, venison or other game as well as recipe suggestions from our kitchen. The box will contain whatever is freshly available from the Estate and will all be fresh allowing you to freeze it as you wish.

It’s Monday and we’ve got another intriguing Grantown business to tell you all about.

Highland Quietlife helps you find a moment of calm within your busy life. Owner Cath Wright leads forest bathing in the woodlands of the Cairngorms National Park. Forest bathing – also known as shinrin-yoku – is the practice of immersing yourself in nature.

Cath runs sessions throughout the year and at all times of the day – she’s even staged sunrise, full moon and star gazing events. And she collaborates with other practitioners for laughter yoga, pilates and more.

She also runs a monthly forest therapy group on the first Sunday of the month. Meet Cath at the Grantown Medical Centre’s Health Woods at 10.30am for this two hour session.
