Cromdale station was opened by the Strathspey Railway on 1 July 1863. It was absorbed by the Great North of Scotland Railway. Then station passed on to the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Passing to the Scottish Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.

The station was host to a LNER camping coach from 1935 to 1939 and possibly one for some of 1934. A camping coach was also positioned here by the Scottish Region from 1954 to 1955.

The station includes a restored GNSR six-wheeled coach body now, built at Inverurie Works in 1916, which is currently let out by the owners as a camping coach, offering holiday accommodation, as well as a car porch, constructed to look like a platform awning.

This 'Notice as to Trespass' has been lovingly restored by the owner of the converted Cromdale Station. It is dated 1/10/1909 and refers to the Great North of Scotland Railway Company, which operated the Strathspey Railway, closed to passengers in 1965.

Only 3 more sleeps until the big night. Just a few things to note this year that are different from last year.

1. Please don’t bring your dogs - the reindeer herders have expressly asked that dogs are kept away from the event. They frighten the reindeer and bring unnecessary stress to the animals. Unless there is a medical need for your dog to be there, please leave them at home.

2. We are selling the torches and meeting on the grass outside the Craiglynne this year. Not at the triangle. Please keep the road completely clear as the fire service, pipe band, Santa and the reindeer will begin at the triangle. Please join the procession as they walk past the Craiglynne. This is changing because we are trying to avoid creating a bottle neck at the triangle with torch sales and too many bodies.

3. The flame lit torches will cost £5 each and the LED torches for kids will be £3 for 1 or £5 for 2. Where possible please bring cash to pay. It is much more efficient and faster if we don’t have to use a card machine. It’s even more helpful if you can bring the correct change. But this isn’t essential. 😁

4. Most importantly have a lovely time. It is truly a magical event. Say hello to our fabulous volunteers who are marvellous. 🤩

See you Saturday at the Craiglynne at 7pm! We can’t wait.
