A trip away today for myself exploring the Moray coast and a couple of places I’d never been: Cullen and the Bow Fiddle Rock.

First stop the Scottish Dolphin Centre and along the coast road to Buckie and Portknockie. A short coastal path overlooks the natural rock formation called the Bow Fiddle Rock.

A little further is the town of Cullen with strong connections to Grantown as another residence of the Earls Of Seafield in addition to their Strathspey estate.

Lovely day out and only 60min from Grantown.

Lovely day spent touring Speyside distilleries (it’s not work 😂) with Robert & Gillian from Grantown and their school days friends Peg and Mark from Perth. Originally all from Haddington, Mark was their best man and has just retired. It was a complete surprise for them both .

They managed 5 distilleries and 15 whiskies 🥃 😳😳 and a lovely lunch at The Mash Tun Aberlour.

September is Scottish Archaeology month and the Highland Archaeology Festival. Unfortunately the HAF are not running field trips this year which I have contributed to in the past.

However, if there is enough interest I will run local walks in and around Grantown, mostly at weekends in September incorporating archaeological sites.

If you’re interested just add your name below so I can gauge demand .

Had a great time at the annual Grantown show this afternoon. The Strathspey Farmers Club put on a great display of the local livestock and entertainment for all the family.

And the rain held off until 6:30pm 😊

👏👏 👏
That’s it over for another year.

With this cool, wet summer, there’s already a few fungi 🍄 appearing on the woodland floor.

Perhaps one of the most recognisable is Fly Agaric with it’s conspicuous red cap and white spots. Beware though as it is poisonous. 😳

A wee tour of the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail with Leon from Vancouver 🇨🇦

He enjoyed The GlenAllachie sherry cask range under the guidance of the lovely Sue .

Then at the River Livet where we were photo-bombed by Alba Whisky Tours & Tastings . So Leon got two knowledgeable guides for the price of one 😂🥃

Yesterday’s tour of Speyside 🥃 distilleries with father & son, Michael and Patrick from Texas and St Louis, Missouri 🇺🇸

For some reason it was very quiet yesterday and they were the only ones on the Cragganmore distillery tour and a tasting The GlenAllachie. They had a great one to one tuition from Kev at Glenallachie before we toured The Glenlivet.
A memorable 40th birthday celebration from father to son.

Matt & Elise from Virginia 🇺🇸 following seeing the Taylor Swift concert in London, spent a couple of days in Edinburgh then headed north to join me on a Speyside distilleries tour.

Matt enjoyed his favourite at Glenlivet and experienced a new one at Glenallachie.

They are expecting their first child in November,so Elise enjoyed the Speyside scenery and the Highland coo 🥃😊

Early start this morning to meet Suad from Dubai 🇦🇪 off the train from Inverness. Her first time in Scotland and she’s fallen in love with the country & people . She specifically requested local walks , so we headed off to An Lochan Uaine (Green Lochan ) trail where we had the place to ourselves and a few friendly ducks. Bird sounds at that time in the morning were amazing, like walking in the jungle.

Then up to Cairngorm and the mist came down to add atmosphere.

Quick stop in Rothiemurchus for brunch and then the Uath Lochans to cap a great morning.

Suad has been travelling solo in Scotland and visited amazing places both on and off the tourist routes.

Tomorrow she’s off to Glasgow for a couple of days and then back to the United Arab Emirates.

She is a keen chef with a huge 130k social media following, so here’s hoping I take more visitors from Dubai exploring Strathspey.

That’s my final walk for this year of the Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival and what great weather and views to share with a fab group from Aberdeen, Forres and Edinburgh.

We walked along the Dava Way from the former Dava Station to the Square in Grantown, about 8.5 miles.

Great views over the moor to the Cairngorms in the south and Ben Wyvis in the north. Lovely picnic stop for lunch at Huntly’s Cave and a ginger beer from Grantown Coop at the finish . Well done everyone 😊👍

Sunday morning, four hardy souls joined me in the rain and the mist to explore the Dava Moor. The other eight who pulled out missed a very wet but enjoyable walk from the Jesus Saves stone to Easter & Wester Crannich and Rychorrich.

Plenty of puddles and burns flowing down the tracks and then the rain eased and the mist descended.

We were all still smiling at the end. What a contrast to yesterday in Glenbeg.

Home to dry off and change out of the soaked clothes 😊🥾

‘The perfect walk’ so my group on the Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival told me this morning as they discovered ‘Glenbeg, Grantown’s hidden gem’.

They came from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Burghead, Rafford and Forres for the walk.

Despite the forecast the rain held off and we were rewarded with great views of the Cairngorms and Cromdale Hills. Plenty of wildlife , wildflowers and stories of the Glen and its people over the centuries.

Tomorrow’s walk is ‘Exploring the Dava Moor’.

Folk from Dufftown and Findochty joined me on day one of Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival. A humid morning but thankfully the rain held off for our walk. May flies down at the Spey and several herons along the banks.

Tomorrow, I’m taking a walk in Glenbeg, ‘ Grantown’s Hidden Gem’ still some spaces and on Sunday ‘Exploring the Dava Moor ‘ is fully booked.

Yesterday’s Speyside Malt Whisky 🥃 tour was with Emily and Kyle from New Jersey 🇺🇸. It was a double celebration with a 30th birthday treat for Kyle and they were also on their honeymoon.

They enjoyed visiting Glenlivet, Aberlour, Cragganmore and The GlenAllachie where Sue introduced them to their sherry cask range.

Fun morning with Ann, another guide and her group from Washington DC 🇺🇸 . They’re on an extensive tour of Scotland and spent three hours in my company discovering Grantown.

We managed to avoid the rain and they came prepared for the cold with lots of layers.

Next they’re off to an afternoon tea in Aberlour and then Maryculter in Aberdeenshire.

Several tourists have remarked how clean Grantown is and no graffiti.

Fantastic weather and great fun with Liz & Sam Grant from Washington state 🇺🇸 . They did the round of great Speyside distilleries: Glenlivet, Glenfarclas, Glenallachie and Cragganmore 🥃

Also a piper and two Highland coos. Wow! What an advert for Scotland.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Sam has a pretty cool Clan Grant tattoo with the motto and tartan ! Very proud of his Grant heritage.
