This is one of our favourite trees in Grantown. It’s stunning in autumn and the contrast against the backdrop of the Cromdales and the blue sky really makes the colours stand out.

It’s supposed to be stormy today and after driving home from Edinburgh earlier through torrential rain and low cloud, I wasn’t expecting the blue skies in Grantown.l, or to find any leaves still on the tree. So I had to take this photo on arriving back home.

Apparently today is black dog day so I thought I’d post a few pics of our eldest doing what he loves best - playing with balls, chewing my slippers and generally looking handsome. He might not be the best behaved dog in the world, and he can be a wee bit demanding at times, but we love him to the moon and back! 🥰

I thought I’d nip out to the Bothy garden and pick some fruit for breakfast as it’s a changeover day.

This was all I could find 😂
The blueberries and strawberries are obviously popular which is great. We always wonder if guests enjoy the fruit or if the birds take it, but I think these have been enjoyed by our last few guests.

We’ve got an abundance of apples this year which we’ve never had before. They’re a bit small and have a bit of wind blight. Might not quite be ready yet, but thought I’d give it a try.

We don't see ourselves as particularly creative, but we love looking at (and buying!) what others produce. This week's open studios event is the ideal time to do that.

If you're staying with us take a look at the information book in the Bothy and for the yellow signs whilst travelling around the area. If you're staying with us outwith this week, lots of the studios taking part are open all year, so you'll get a chance to see some of their work still during your visit.

The ride out by all the Harleys to Grantown yesterday was superb! I was standing in the middle of the road as a Marshall as the bikes were coming in so I didn’t get any photos at all, other than one of Minnie Mouse. I had to take this for the grandchildren as they love Mickey and Minnie. Roll on next year 😁😁 and hopefully some better photos 😂

Tomorrow is one the events that we love the most. Thunder comes to Grantown. With thousands of Harley riders, the roar can be heard all over the town.

The ladies at Lynbreck Croft are truly inspirational. They work so hard and are completely focused on sustainable crofting.
You may recognise them from the telly, or from seeing their book on the shelves in bookshops.

Whilst here you can enjoy a visit to their Croft which is really interesting. You’ll hear from Lynn about all the amazing work they do and be able to take in their stunning views at the same time.

We are lucky to have Lynbreck Croft as a nearby neighbour!

Do say hello

Whilst out for a walk at the weekend, we were stopped by a lovely couple.

They recognised us from This Farming Life and wanted to say hello. They also asked if they could take a picture which they then kindly emailed to us.

It’s 6yrs since we filmed with the BBC. But still people sometimes recognise us whilst out and about.

It just shows how popular the programme is and that’s exactly why we wanted to do it - to share our journey as new entrants into the world of food production and our vision for a nature rich land and life.

And we think it’s great because we get to meet so many lovely people who say such kind things. People that really care, wanting to know how we are getting on. We can feel they’ve been rooting for us.

It’s great.

So if you do see us out and about and you also watched This Farming Life, do stop us and say hello.

Oo we love this - the big butterfly count.
We select plants for the Bothy and our home to attract wildlife. We get lots of bees and some butterflies. Last year we planted a Buddleja Davidii, otherwise known as ‘butterfly bush’ because of the butterflies it attracts. We buy lots of plants from Greens Nurseries which we love! The plant is only quite small just now, but hopefully next year it’ll be more prominent.
