When we moved to Grantown we lived at the other end of town and used to walk every day in the woods directly opposite the house. Today we took a walk back down there and reminded ourselves of the lovely views you get along the river to the Cairngorms.

When you stay with us over winter and let us know you’ll be arriving late, we will pop on some lamps and turn the heating up to make it warm and cosy for when you arrive.

We’ve also been out shovelling snow so guests can park easily. Well… when I say ‘we’, I actually mean Neil!! Well done Neil 👏

One of the things I love about living in Grantown is that you can’t just ‘pop’ to the shops.

Winter walks in Grantown.
It’s a lovely time of year to visit with cold, snowy and frosty days and stunning scenery surrounding us. Today we had a walk through the golf course and through the woods.

Every day I open the curtains and think that I’m so lucky to live here. On my way to a meeting this morning, these views were stunning. Just outside Grantown, on the road to Aviemore, the frost was thick and didn’t lift all day. The freezing temperatures make for some wonderful views.

This is one of our favourite trees in Grantown. It’s stunning in autumn and the contrast against the backdrop of the Cromdales and the blue sky really makes the colours stand out.

It’s supposed to be stormy today and after driving home from Edinburgh earlier through torrential rain and low cloud, I wasn’t expecting the blue skies in Grantown.l, or to find any leaves still on the tree. So I had to take this photo on arriving back home.

Apparently today is black dog day so I thought I’d post a few pics of our eldest doing what he loves best - playing with balls, chewing my slippers and generally looking handsome. He might not be the best behaved dog in the world, and he can be a wee bit demanding at times, but we love him to the moon and back! 🥰

I thought I’d nip out to the Bothy garden and pick some fruit for breakfast as it’s a changeover day.

This was all I could find 😂
The blueberries and strawberries are obviously popular which is great. We always wonder if guests enjoy the fruit or if the birds take it, but I think these have been enjoyed by our last few guests.

We’ve got an abundance of apples this year which we’ve never had before. They’re a bit small and have a bit of wind blight. Might not quite be ready yet, but thought I’d give it a try.

We don't see ourselves as particularly creative, but we love looking at (and buying!) what others produce. This week's open studios event is the ideal time to do that.

If you're staying with us take a look at the information book in the Bothy and for the yellow signs whilst travelling around the area. If you're staying with us outwith this week, lots of the studios taking part are open all year, so you'll get a chance to see some of their work still during your visit.

Spring has sprung in Grantown On Spey. It’s such a feel good feeling when spring finally arrives. The colours are vibrant, with azaleas in the garden, blueberry flower heads appearing and there’s a carpet of green in the woods. Look who we spotted on our walk today. We get lots of roe deer in the Anagach Woods but they are difficult to spot. This one watching us was beautiful and very majestic! The woods are only a couple of minutes from us and so many guests enjoy exploring them.

Great coffee is a ‘must have’ for us in the mornings. That’s why we have a Melitta filter coffee machine in the Bothy and supply you with great coffee from Cairngorm Leaf & Bean, Highland Coffee Roaster in your welcome pack. Steve runs Cairngorm Leaf & Bean, in Boat of Garten just 8 miles from us. Here he roasts the beans to create different flavours. We have his ‘Cafe Blend’ for the Bothy just now. Steve has just reopened after having to close due to a broken machine and we couldn’t be happier to have him back supplying us and our guests again!

Today Ross decided to have a wee 10 minute break and chat to the birds with his ball! Who knew that a dog could speak ‘bird’.
