NEW TOUR! Walking & Wildlife in Summer
Sat 9 August - Sat 16 August 2025

A rare opportunity to see the Scottish Highlands and its wildlife from a different perspective, as we explore some incredible walking routes.

A new adventure for the general naturalist that enjoys seeing a wide range of habitats, fabulous flora and fauna, and picturesque Highland scenery whilst on foot. This week-long trip incorporates longer walks than our usual tours and we expect to walk between 4 - 10 miles each day. As well as enjoying the exercise, we still look at the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and flowers which make a Highland summer special!

Our South Wales tour started very well in Monmouthshire last week, with Wood Warbler and Redstart feeding young, Nightjar churring, Firecrest and Spotted Flycatcher. An Osprey catching fish in front of the group was a surprise as was Little ringed Plover - with young! Seeing scarcer local species always takes time and patience but the group managed to see Marsh Harrier, Yellow Wagtail, Bittern and Hobby. Next they headed out west to Pembrokeshire and Skomer, in beautiful weather with tens of thousands of adorable Puffins! 😍

Heatherlea Guide Jozef Leestmans has just finished leading our tour to Armenia. The group had a great time enjoying the Armenian landscape, food and of course amazing birds! 😀
Highlights included Eagle-owl, European Pelicans, Egyptian and Griffon Vultures and Semi-collared Flycatcher. Plus White-tailed Lapwings, Glossy Ibis, Lesser Grey Shrike, Golden Oriole, Mountain Chiffchaff and Syrian Woodpecker to name a few.

Our Estonia in Spring tour is off to a cracking start! Local guide Uku P**l shared this beautiful photo of a Lynx which the group saw on Wednesday. This stunning cat posed for around 20 minutes while Ural Owl was singing in the background. What a lucky find!😍

A few pics from last weeks Highlands & Skye in Spring tour. Great to see some of our best looking speciality Highland breeders back on territories with the Slavonian Grebe and Black-throated diver. The group were also lucky enough to spot a total of five Short-eared Owls throughout the week which was pretty special!

Our Lesvos tour got underway yesterday and in the first day and a half we've had plenty of spring migrants and resident birds. Masked Shrike, Pygmy Cormorant, Eleanora's Falcon, Ruppell's Warbler, Rock Nuthatch, Cretzschmar's Bunting and 5 species of tern have been just some of the highlights so far!

Our group out in the Camargue with Heatherlea Guide Toby Green are having a great time! They had a fantastic start with nice flocks of Cranes around the flooded fields loads of Flamingos of course and a bonus Wryneck! Since then they have also had Wallcreeper, Alpine Accentor, Eagle Owl (record shot) then Griffon Vulture and stunning Firecrest from Ventoux where they also lucked out with sightings of Snow Finch!

Our new Spain in Early Spring tour with Heatherlea Guide Steve West is off to a great start!
Highlights so far have included superb Bluethroats, Moustached Warbler, Booted Eagle, Audouin's Gull, Slender-billed Gull, Temminck's Stint and a roost of over 100 Night Herons in the grounds of the hotel! Plus Eagle Owl, Bearded Reedling, Penduline Tit, Golden Eagle, Merlin and Wallcreeper. With still a few days remaining on the tour who knows what else might turn up!

This week's holiday is Highlands and the Aberdeenshire Coast. The group cleared up locally on Sunday with incredible views of Crested Tit, Crossbill and a flock of over 100 Snow Bunting, finishing the day with up to 5 Hen Harrier at a roost site. Heading down to Aberdeenshire yesterday in beautiful sunshine they had fabulous lekking action from Black Grouse with up to a dozen greyhen in attendance. The bird sightings are still racking up with 5 Common Crane seen today. 3 days still to go - what else will we see?

Our Scottish Specialities in Winter group had an incredible start to their holiday with 10 Golden Eagle and 3 White-tailed Eagle (inc those in the video) sightings in the first two days! Add in to the mix displaying Goshawk, Peregrine attacking high tide roosting waders, seaduck such as Scaup and Long-tailed Duck and it's made for a fabulous week of Highland birding!
