A wonderful ‘home from home’ in a superb position off the beaten track yet within a few footsteps of wonderful walks and within easy reach of all the facilities of Grasmere. We have walked along the footpath outside numerous times over the years not realising we were missing such a hidden gem. The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. We’ll be back!
Tips for other travellers
Stock up on provisions and then you can literally park your car and walk on the fells from the doorstep. Alcock Tarn, Helm Crag, Fairfield Horseshoe to name just a few are all accessible - and we’d highly recommend a beer or glass of wine on the south facing terrace to enjoy the wonderful views after a day. Bliss!"

Wonderful location, lovely welcoming, comfortable cottage with great log burner and extremely helpful owners whose extra touches made the break even better. Lots of useful information provided by the owners which came in very handy. We would thoroughly recommend and will definitely return as soon as we can!
Tips for other travellers
Walks around Rydal Water and to Grasmere are easy enough although some steep uphills along the way! Recommend Tweedies bar in Grasmere. Logs and Kindling from the BP garage by Ambleside."

Guests at our cottage often spot our lovely reds. Can you help to protect them?

You may have seen from the recent UK Squirrel Accord posts that today is the official Red Squirrel Appreciation Day. At Grasmere Red Squirrels, however, we appreciate Red Squirrels every single day!

However initiatives of this kind have the important role of raising awareness about the plight of our little reds and about the work that we and our neighbouring groups do, day in and day out, to help protect our endangered Red Squirrels.

At our recent trustees meeting, when we reviewed our finances for the year, we realised that we have made a significant loss in 2023, so we are looking for ways to raise funds to help cover our food, feeder, camera and ranger costs. Please get in touch if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer with us.

We would also be very grateful if, on this Red Squirrel Appreciation Day, you would consider supporting us, if you can, by making a donation. Every little really does help!

"Brockstone was a most fabulous place to stay. We were lucky with the weather which meant we were blessed to enjoy the amazing views from the patio. Such a private place to stay but it doesn’t feel isolated due to the walks from the door and Grasmere being so close. I would definitely recommend it, the cottage is very sweet, clean and has almost everything you need. We do hope to go back next year.
Tips for other travellers
The walks from the door are amazing. We didn’t use our car from arriving, till leaving. Alcock tarn was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, so tranquil, well worth the climb. Rydal is also beautiful and the Badger pub serves great food. Grasmere is now my best place the lakes has to offer"
