The Aurora Borealis, meteors, lightening, planets, moons and the milkway were all seen above the North York Moors last night, what a special show 😍

Over 30% of the North York Moors is heather moorland.This unique habitat is nationally and internationally recognised, so much so that an area of 44,000 hectares of heather moorland on the North York Moors has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and for the bird life, especially the ground nesting birds like red grouse, lapwings, golden plover, hen harrier and curlew, the area has also been made a Special Area of Conservation.

Heather moorland is rare on a worldwide scale – there is probably less heather moorland in the world than tropical rainforest. One of the largest continuous expanses of upland heather moorland in England and Wales is in the North York Moors and aren't we just so lucky that we get experience this beautiful sight each year 💜

Heather is very special to me, my birthday is in August and each year I take my children (and birthday cake) up to the purple Moors to celebrate! It's a little tradition I started a few years ago, I'll try and find a photo and pop it on my story 😄
