The weekend was all about decking but you can never ignore the wildlife and weather.

The swans had a successful year with a big family of 6 cygnets. The common darter dragonfly enjoyed the sunshine. The geese are getting ready to depart for winter on the nature reserve opposite. And the hot weather gave a fabulously atmospheric misty evening. Ducks had to get a mention too. 🦆

Start fishing!

Are you planning on catching up with your old mate Rod? 😉

After a three month closure, the new coarse fishing season opens today across the country, including the Broads rivers.

The close season helps protect spawning fish, and the period from 15 March to 15 June covers the period where most of our fish species spawn 🐟

Well worth a trip for anyone staying at Halcyon.

‘Seen a few weeks ago now as you can tell by the reeds, anyway one flew right over the boat yesterday, fair golden in the spot of sunshine we sat in, realising those aboard didn’t know a Bittern l assured them that it was a good sighting. In fact we have sailed most of the last two days in our own sun while ahead and behind the East-coast gloom surrounded. Swallowtail butterflies are now few and far between and after a flurry of fledglings, bird life too has subdued somewhat. Waders are more evident and Marsh Harrier young continue to receive parental handouts.
But dragonflies, well they are achanging: first Lesser Emperor and Keeled Skimmer today, veritable clouds of fresh Darters and a couple more Brown Hawkers. Tremendous audiences with tiring Norfolk Hawkers and all the while hungry Hobbies sew up the skies, ready to carry away the careless ones including the Black Tailed Skimmers and ageing Four-Spots .
Back on board our own Swallow’s nest continues to thrive and every evening l reconstruct their own personal cabin to keep potential predators away till l return in the morning. Apart from the first trip of the day , advanced booking is highly recommended.

Autumn on the dunes at Winterton followed by lunch at the Dunes beach cafe. The little houses around the light house are holiday challets. The lighthouse is now a private house with a bedroom where the light would have been.
