Sometimes sailing takes a bit of planning (kiddinggggggg skippers) like timing and tides etc especially when we want to take one of our beloved routes under the Skye Bridge and down through the Kyle's ⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛰️
Despite the careful planning it always looks like a close call when you're standing on deck...

Where to start with this one?! Meet our volunteer, Elizabeth, an absolute icon aboard Taeping ⭐️

Elizabeth is a retired Pre-5 child development officer with a passion for all things outdoors 🥾🛶

Elizabeth started sailing with her school’s sailing club and hasn't stopped! ⛵️

Over the years Elizabeth has sailed a variety of yachts both in the UK and abroad enjoying sailing holidays with her family 🌍⛵️☀️

Elizabeth began sailing Clipper 60 yachts in 2006 helping out either as mate, watch-leader or volunteer and took part in the 2008 Tall Ship Race to Norway aboard Taeping’s sister ship ⛵️🇳🇴

Elizabeth has also been a volunteer mate with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust since 2018 💕

Elizabeth is a qualified dinghy sailing instructor, powerboater and yachtmaster offshore and jokes when she qualified 'long long ago' the only instruments aboard yachts were a radio and depth sounders!!! ⛵️⚓️

Elizabeth if full of knowledge, experience and fantastic stories so a Taeping adventure with her is always interesting. Even more so when joined by her partner in crime, Dot😆 ⭐️

⭐️ Meet Our Crew ⭐️

Meet Sue, another of our incredible volunteers at Ocean Sailing Scotland ⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Sue didn't take up sailing till 2021 when she signed up to do a few legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
After her level 1 training for the race, she arranged a couple of bespoke weeks on Taeping for additional Clipper training for herself and other Clipper crew then began volunteering with OSS! ⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Alongside Taeping, Sue has sailed on some other Clipper 60 boats on the south coast, sailing to lots of incredible destinations such as the Channel Islands, Portugal and Gibraltar 🌍⛵️

Sue has always loved the sea and prior to sailing did a lot of sea kayaking both in Scotland and Europe, Greenland and Alaska 🛶🌎

Sue went on to do legs 1,2 and 7 of the 23/24 Clipper Race sailing from Portsmouth to Uruguay and on to South Africa in 2023 and from Seattle through the Panama Canal to Washington DC in 2024 ⛵️

Sue is now looking forward to sailing to many of the amazing Scottish Islands and coastlines that she has previously kayaked to ⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🛶

Sue has an incredible and inspirational knowledge of exploring the world from the water and is a great member of our team ⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌊

Doesn't get much fresher than that! Hand dived scallops from sea to plate within the hour! Thank you to our very kind diver acquaintance for prepping them and saving us the hassle 😆
We don't always eat like this but we try when possible!

⭐️ Meet Our Crew ⭐️

Last but not least are probably the most vital part of our team, our volunteer crew ❤️ with a range of backgrounds, careers, expertise (and personalities!) they really do make the trips special ☀️

First up is Dot 🐎⛵️🌊

Dot is a retired intensive care nurse who has been involved with the clipper 60’s since 2014 ⛵️⚓️🌊

Dot enjoys a good yee ha on the helm, but is equally happy to look after the guests and is handy to have around in case of any injuries 🧭🌊🤕💉

A keen Equestrian and horse owner, Dot didn’t get into sailing until 1999. Initially dingies and windsurfers, before moving on to keel boats in 2012 and now a qualified Day Skipper 🏇⛵️

Whether you are looking for a cable tie or an elastoplast, Dot will know where to find it 🩹

Dot is always there to help with anything needed and a wealth of knowledge, which also makes her an incredible teacher. If you don't know, ask Dot! ❤️☀️⭐️
