This is the Manor House site at Barnoldby le Beck. Running close is Buck Beck which heads out to the Humber. It suggests the early settlement was in this area, close to a water supply and to the Barton Street - an ancient trackway. The -by suffix is old Norse for settlement of. Investigating in to when the French le was added. Grimsby’s French MP, Henri Josse lived here in the village - more on him another time.

It's wise to book as places are limited and they usually go fast! Each year I come up with new topics, revisit some old ones that may have been refreshed.
Topics this year have included the fabulous Eugenia Doughty and her husband George; medieval Grimsby; and coming up some of the customs and traditions of Grimsby; Grimsby in the First World War; more on the architects Scaping and Farebrother.
