A Little History of Glamping

You might be surprised to learn that glamping – short for “glamorous camping” – isn’t as modern as it sounds. While the word itself only became popular in the early 2000s, the idea of combining nature with luxury goes back centuries.

In fact, royalty and nobles were “glamping” as far back as the 1500s. Think grand pavilions, plush bedding, and feasts under the stars – all while on royal expeditions or diplomatic visits. Later, in the early 20th century, wealthy travelers on African safaris insisted on the same comforts: spacious tents filled with proper beds, rugs, and even bathtubs!

Fast forward to today, and glamping has become a stylish way to unwind in nature without sacrificing comfort. From cosy pods and yurts to treehouses and eco-domes, glamping lets you soak up the outdoors while still enjoying the finer things.

In 2022, when we began our journey into short term lets and glamping pods, we wanted to make our guests time here comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

We are now feeling incredibly grateful that not only have we achieved this, but guests are returning to Jerusalem Farm time after time. Some are travelling to see family nearby, some are in the area for work and some just love East Lothian and want to explore places they didn't get to on previous visits.

HUGE thanks to all of our returning guests, we really do appreciate you and can't wait to welcome you again in the future ❤️
