Well that’s it Christmas all packed up and put away until next year. I never like taking down the decorations, I always feel sad that the celebrations have ended. But we have a whole year of exciting things to look forward to, starting with the lighter nights which we should start to see soon. Only another 352 days and we can do it all over again.

Would you dare to look over?

I really am not keen on heights and I have to admit it did take my breath away looking over. (I had a really tight grip on my boys!) But it was worth it for the great photo.

We enjoyed a lovely family walk around Baitings Dam. It was great to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the sunshine.

The walk around the reservoir is circular and just under a mile and a half there is a small car park if you drive there.

Or for the more energetic you can walk from Top Barn and add another 6 miles there and back. The scenery is worth the effort.

As work continues on our exciting new barn conversion we decided it was time for a change of name.

Top Barn Rishworth is still here and available to let and will soon be accompanied by our new addition Low Barn Rishworth.

Our new holiday let is very different from Top Barn. It is a single storey barn, with three bedrooms sleeping six. It will still offer the same great character and style as Top Barn.

We are so lucky to be surrounded by such fabulous eatery’s. Most of which are within walking distance.

Would you love to do this job? I definitely would, How satisfying !!

Unfortunately it wasn’t me who got to do it. We left that up the experts at Northern Restoration.
We got the team to clean off all the whitewash or lime wash. To leave the original stone walls.

The whitewash is usually applied to exteriors; however, it has been traditionally used in interiors of food preparation areas, particularly rural dairies, because of its mildly antibacterial properties. Although this building wasn’t actually a diary it is attached to what was our mistal, or milking barn when we were a diary farm.

We are delighted with the results and will be leaving these walls as they are now.

Top Barn Rishworth

Top Barn is located in the village of Rishworth in the Calder Valley area of Calderdale in West Yorkshire. With our central UK location and close proximity to transport links Top Barn is the ideal place for reunions, family and friends gatherings and celebrations. We are with easy walking distance of shops, cafes, tea rooms and pubs and the village Ripponden.

Top Barn Rishworth has changed dramatically in the past few years, previously used as a cow shed and for storage of hay for our family farm., before being made into the fabulous holiday barn it is today. It was always previously referred to as ‘The Top Shop’.

We began the conversion to a holiday barn in 2017, the renovations included everything but three of the four outside walls. As you can see from the photo this was no small undertaking.

The fully-equipped kitchen and dining room is at the heart of Top Barn. Our table is large enough to seat 12 guests together. With range cooker, wine cooler, full-size fridge-freezer , microwave and dish washer, you will have everything you need for your ideal self-catered holiday. You’ll also find a washing machine and tumble drier in the utility room.
