NORTHERN Ballet has announced a new production based on the life of pioneering Yorkshirewoman Anne Lister.

Hi there friends! Hope you are all ok.
So yesterday Anne Lister of Halifax got to go to the most special of events with no less than our great friend herself, for the announcement of Northern Ballet’s new production *Gentleman Jack*!! This will be debuted in spring 2026, and as Sally says “It's so exciting to see Anne Lister's influence and legacy continue to expand and for her life and writing to reach new audiences. What a thrilling opportunity to present Anne Lister to the world in a brand new way.”
We can’t wait to see this evolve over the next 18 months, and are *very* excited about this new work!

Back to news 1 October 2024 Northern Ballet will debut a groundbreaking new full-length production based on the life of Anne Lister in 2026. An utter delight having the wonderful Lisa Timbs aka The Square Pianist with us for the Anne Lister Memorial weekend 🙏. And so pleased that she visited the Hub, to be known as the - and had her picture taken with Anne, no less.. ! ❤️🎩

Hanging out at The Anne Lister Hub in Halifax with the incredible Rachel Lappin who somehow manages to organise these wonderful events ..... always with a smile, despite a massive workload. Thank you Rachel for all that you do. X

D.I.T.T.O. Halifax Minster! Wonderful hosts (Thank You Andy, Cath and volunteers, and of course Father David 🙏), incredible musicians The Square Pianist and Fiona Katie Widdop, our Anne Lister and CultureDale volunteers and staff, and our beloved audience of followers, in the place that she was baptised, worshipped and is buried. And as Anne herself once said: ‘Aren’t we lucky to be alive, to have life….’ Thank you all: Anne included! 🙏🎩

Well that, , really has been quite a weekend… 🙏
Through your inspiration and the great legacy that you have left us (with) many of us have come together again this weekend in your hono(u)r and memory, in your hometown of - and have had a fantastic time during the Anne Lister Memorial weekend 🙏. From the Flower Laying at The Piece Hall this morning to the picnic and walk at this afternoon - followed by the most fabulous concert at Halifax Minster this evening with the wonderful The Square Pianist and Fiona Katie Widdop which brought the weekend to a close: we hope that we have remembered you in style.

And for those not able to be here today I know that people will have remembered you in their own very special ways.

Thank you to you all for all of your (ongoing) support. And thank you, Anne Lister, for being who you are, which now allows so many of us to be who *we* are.. 🙏🎩

And of course the magical event that will bring this most special of weekends to a close is the Candlelit Concert at Halifax Minster, with two wonderful musicians: our fabulous harpist, and pianist playing her square piano! This event takes place from 6.30-8pm on Sunday 22nd September, the 184th anniversary of the death of , and promises to be a most memorable occasion. Hi there friends, wherever you are.. 🙏🤗
Firstly: an enormous Thank You to you all for your most incredible support over the last two days, for the Anne Lister Memorial weekend, in person and online - and one more wonderful day still to come, tomorrow: Sunday 22nd September, the actual anniversary of the death of Anne Lister of course.
And with that in mind we shall, once again, be gathering at the sculpture of Anne Lister in The Piece Hall, to be together and to lay flowers.
Gates open at 9.00am for a 9.30am start, and a flower seller will be in the courtyard for you to buy flowers.
Oh - and our friends at The Trading Rooms, in the courtyard will be open from 9am too - for you to buy hot drinks, pastries and cakes!
We really hope to see you there.. 🙏🎩
