🏯 Gojoin at Japanese Castles

When visiting sacred places like temples and shrines in Japan, you can ask to receive a “Goshuin” or 御朱印 which is a seal/stamp to prove your visit. It has the name of the location as well as the date written on it.

Did you know that Japanese castles also do the same? Except they are called “Gojoin” or 御城印, where the second character "jo" represents castles. Often times they will have the family crest of the most prominent family that owned the castle in historical times. Most castles nowadays have been transformed into a museum where you can see artifacts from the castle.

Gojoin is a great way to remember when and which castle you visited while in Japan.
