Perfect view when you’ve time on your hands
When you’ve time on your hands, a spot of clock watching seems almost inevitable.
The latter can draw criticism but if you are the next owners of a property for sale on the seafront at Eastney then you are more likely to draw envy.
Looking out through the windows alongside the huge outward-facing clock face in the drawing room is just one of the ways to enjoy the 360 degree views from the flat occupying the top two floors of the Clock Tower at the former Royal Marines Barracks at Eastney.
“You have to hand it to the architects because they knew how to make every second count while the owners are at home,” explains Colin Shairp, of Fine and Country Southern Hampshire estate agents.
“This unique apartment makes the very best of its elevated setting as it wins every time when it comes to finding the tallest building in the neighbourhood. Instead of surround sound there’s surround landscape and to crown it all there’s a balustraded rooftop complete with its own flagpole accessed via a stone spiral staircase.
“Opening off the hallway on the lower floor is a bedroom to one side and a shower room to the other. The hallway then opens into the drawing room, where the vaulted ceiling rises in part to 19ft high. Twin porthole windows complement the working clock face while the kitchen has been skilfully incorporated at one end of the room.
“Stairs in the hall rise to a first floor landing with a bathroom to one side. The stairs lead directly into a sitting room which then opens to the second bedroom which has its own vaulted ceiling with inset lighting.
“The sea horizon is approximately 20 miles distant while to the sides the property looks along the coast across Hayling Island in one direction and across Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight and along the Solent in the other. At the rear, Portsdown Hill frames the outlook.
“Portsea Island has a rich heritage of buildings from its Naval past but this has to be one of the most outstanding adaptations to domestic use that can be found anywhere. The good news for those who are short on time to complete a purchase is that this property has no onward chain, which should help speed up the buying process.”
