We had lunch in the garden of the Greyhound Inn and enjoyed the views of Corfe Castle.

Old Harry Rocks is part of the Jurassic coastline; a world heritage site that extends for 96 miles and covers 185 million years of geological history.
To the right is Studland Bay, which played a very important role during the build-up to the D-Day Landings, and it's where Naturists like to hang out. π

Today is the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, part of Operation Overlord.
It was the start of the Battle of Normandy and the beginning of the end of the war in western Europe.

The Military Knights of Windsor date from the 14th century when they fought in the hundred years war against France.
Captured Knights would pay a huge ransom to secure their freedom and safe return home.
Many Knights became poor and destitute, so the king let them live at Windsor Castle, where they attended the church services and provided assistance on special occasions like Garter Day.

The Fire Brigade was practising an evacuation from the cathedral today.
The scenario:
A stonemason had cut his leg with a saw. The paramedics and fire brigade had to treat the wound and safely evacuate him from the building. They stopped the bleeding, but then he had a cardiac arrest.

Dyrham Park is a beautiful country estate surrounded by 274 acres of formal gardens and parkland in southern Gloucestershire. It was the home of William Blathwayt, a politician and diplomat, who commissioned William Talman to rebuild an old inherited house.
The house and furniture date from c.1710, and it contains amazing works of art by Dutch masters.

Buckler's Hard is part of the Beaulieu estate and famous for ship building in the 18th and 19th centuries.
They built 3 ships that fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in c 1805, when Admiral Lord Nelson was victorious over Admiral Vilneuve and Napoleon.

Our Earth - an art exhibition at Salisbury Cathedral, bringing attention to climate change.
'Seaview' by Hilary Jack portrays a home that has been affected by coastal erosion.
'Breathe' by Dryden Goodwin portrays banners of people breathing, emphasising the importance of fresh air.
There are more art installations inside the cathedral.

Lymington is a lovely Georgian town in the New Forest. Here are photos of the Yacht Club and Lifeboat station. There is also seawater swimming baths with an obstacle course.
From here, you can walk along Pennington Marshes and do a spot of birdwatching. If you are very lucky, then you might even spot a White-tailed Sea Eagle.

Beaulieu is a very picturesque village in the New Forest and home to the 4th Lord Montagu.
The 2nd Lord Montagu was a 'petrol-head' and opened a motor museum in Beaulieu. The collection includes both cars, motorcycles, and 'Bluebird'.
The Bluebird-Proteus CN7 is a gas turbine-powered vehicle that was driven by Donald Campbell and achieved the world land speed record on Lake Eyre in Australia on 17 July 1964.

West Kennet Long Barrow is a burial chamber dating from 3650 BC. It is believed to have been built by an early farming community, who would have originally come from the continent.
There are at least 36 men, women and children that have been buried here, over a period of 50 years. This place has been venerated for millennia.

The graffiti in Cheltenham is phenomenal.
Several famous artists have showcased their work here.
These works of art are part of the Cheltenham Paint Festival, organised by Andy Dice, where talented artists are invited every year to paint in designated areas of the town. The large wall murals are permanent.
This year the festival will be held between the 28th and 29th July.

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is a heritage railway run by enthusiasts and preservationists.
SWSR Plc bought the old railway in 1981 and began restoring the line to Cheltenham Racecourse. The first Steam train ran in 1984 along 800 yards of track.
The original railway opened in 1904, with its hayday in the early 1950s. It closed down in the 1960s, except Cheltenham Racecourse, which closed in 1976.

This is King Johns House in Romsey.
It is a combination of 3 houses, built in the 13th century.
King John's House is an early medieval half-timbered building dating to the 13th century. Many of the original architectural details can still be seen, including an unusual bone floor.
Next door, the Tudor Cottage is a late Tudor building, which has been restored on the upper floor to its original condition.
The final building is a Victorian and Edwardian museum showcasing life in Romsey in that period.
