The shirt worn by Colin Firth in the most infamous scene of the BBC’s 1990’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice sold at auction today for £25,000.
The scene was filmed at Lyme Park in Cheshire - a National Trust property I was working at until 12 months ago.

The shirt, which Colin Firth wore as Mr Darcy, has been auctioned with the proceeds going to charity.

We can also now provide food and drink experiences alongside our walking tours with a Gin Masterclass and for the foodies, a visit to one of the Northern Quarter's quirkiest eateries.
With our eyes also on the city's future as well as its past and present, we donate 15% of all ticket prices to the National Trust's Castlefield Viaduct project.

Exciting meeting in Manchester this afternoon discussing opportunities for Trusted Tours with a major hotel.
Afterwards I went for a walk around one of the city’s newest green spaces, Mayfield Park. This is a great example of urban renewal in the centre of the city and includes a play area for children.

A core ethos of the Trusted Tours mission is not only to share our passion for Manchester’s past but to also look to its present and future. That’s why each tour will highlight many of the exciting projects currently taking place in the city that sit side by side with its history.
In addition, we are delighted to announce that 15% of each ticket price is being donated to the National Trust’s Castlefield Viaduct which brings much needed green space and regeneration to the area of Manchester settled by the Romans and saw unprecedented change during the Industrial Revolution.

Today I visited the Angel Meadow area of Manchester. An archaeological dig is taking place before new buildings are erected.
Friedrich Engels described the area as “Manchester’s most savage slum” and a “hell on earth”, in his 1845 book, “The Conditions of the Working Class in England”.
Engels’ parents owned a cotton mill in Manchester and sent him from his home in Germany to work there, to rid him of his extreme political views and turn him into a businessman.
Angel Meadow was home to 30,000 souls, working in cotton factories but trapped in poverty.
Later in life, Engels collaborated with Marx to write the communist manifesto- what he witnessed in Manchester almost certainly helped form his ideology and contributed to Communism.
Learn more about Manchester’s industrial history on our guided walking tour, “From the Romans to Rolls Royce”. Just £40 per person, message for details.

Did you know that the statue of Abraham Lincoln in Manchester was originally placed in London’s Parliament Square?
Lincoln’s son disliked the statue so much - he thought the hand placement made his father look like he had a belly ache- that the statue was sent to Manchester instead and the London statue was replaced with one showing a more dignified pose!
Trusted Tours guided walks of Manchester share fascinating insight into the city’s hidden past from just £40 per person.
