-5 this morning and wow what a beautiful sight we woke up too, I think stevie looks more orange if possible! It's been a wonderful cold crispy week here in the Waveney valley full of long lazy walks, campfires, candles and endless cups of tea and hot chocolate.

Wishing you all a happy new year, I hope you all had time to rest, spend time with loved ones or whatever it was you wanted from the festive period.

It's been back to back guests here in the Barn and hopefully the guests will experience a snowy Waveney Valley this weekend. Fingers crossed , really want to take little man out know his sledge!

I hope this year brings you all health, love and happiness, what else is needed?

We are looking forward to a busy year with lots of guests, amazing workshops and collaborations with the best people.

It's been a breathtaking autumn here so far in the Waveney valley, beautiful misty mornings followed by blue sky sunny days.

The valley is singing with nature all day long, the geese are flocking in their hundreds to warmer climates.

We still have the cows which is lovely, hopefully they will be around for a few more weeks yet before they cosy down for the winter.

I am sorry to use the C word...... but if you were thinking or wanting to spend any of the Christmas holidays in the Barn we only have the main event left!

Out of the two main weeks we only have Christmas eve, Christmas day and boxing day left! Otherwise we are fully booked till 7th January.

I know it feels early to organise as we have just eased into autumn, but people are getting organised.

This was the view last Christmas xx

It's busy harvest time here in the vegetable gardens, I just love these squashes especially roasted with oil and lots and salt and pepper...

We also have lots of carrots, swedes, courgettes.

Will leave the parsnips and celeriacs till we have some frosts, my grandad always told me you don't pick parsnips till the first frost so that's what we do :)

Crumbles are plenty at the minute with all the Gorgeous blackberry's about and our cookers are ready and delicious! It's been lovely the last couple of evenings to warm the cockles up!

We have made some cider and apple juice and some are drying out, the rest will probably be for eating now as the little man likes to pick an apple every morning to eat on our way to letting the chickens out ❤️

Waveney Valley Barn is a rural retreat in the beautiful, picturesque village of Wortwell, looking out onto the Waveney Valley. The barn is perfectly situated on the Norfolk/Suffolk border next to the River Waveney. Your surroundings for the day will be the barn, the 2 acre meadows and the yurt for the day with sheep and chickens and an abundance of wildlife for company.

It's taken me nearly 3 weeks to write this post, for those of you that know me will know that my animals are not really pets but family members ❤️ and for those of you that know me really well will know how much I loved my dear 'little boy'. Its been nearly 3 weeks since we lost him and I am still so heartbroken, it's so quiet without him and not because he was really noisy but because he had such a presence and the way he used to walk around with his ladies finding food for them and grooming each other ❤️💔

They miss him too, letting them out in the morning and shutting the hen house at night is still the hardest part as he is not there.

You must think I am mad being so attached to a Cockerall, I had him since he was a chick which was about 8 years ago. He used to climb up my arm and sit on my shoulder and then walk around the garden with me, during his adolescent stage he wouldn't go to bed unless I was there, such a mummy's boy.

Fly high my 'little boy' and hope you have endless amounts of mealworms where you are now. I will look after your girls for you ❤️

It is a total delight to be bringing to . It is a place of immense grace which truly fosters a sense of well-being and rejuvenation. Come and be refreshed in both soul and body,let yourself be transported into another realm for the day.

Claire has been running retreats for 15 years in India, Morocco, Turkey and the UK. She also runs regular writing workshops both online and in person and has just set up a new publishing company , which is dedicated to bringing out books that are full of heart and contribute to the sum of the world's beauty.

retreat offers participants the opportunity to enjoy abundant time to write, reflect and establish often life-changing alliances and friendships with other writers, away from the constraints of our daily lives and to journey with people who generously and imaginatively share their creative energy.

The sheep have been sheared and looking like beautiful tiny little goats now !! It was Baaabaras and Baaarbies first time and they did amazingly well. Its so lovely having a little flock and how they have settled in with Annie and Minnie.

My favourite part of this first photo is Annie and Baaarbara looking on saying oh it's me next! :)

From all the wind we have had recently we noticed our owl box was a bit on the squif, hopefully you can see the box in this picture. We thought best make it safe and secure so it will stay put and hopefully not disturbed anyone in there.

This is the very end of where our land ends onto the beautiful Waveney Valley (even when the sky is grey I think)

If you squint in the second picture you will see the Swan on her nest and the third picture a lot closer. She comes every year, won't be long till gorgeous grey signets are swimming about.

It is such a privilege and joy to share our home and space with nature, we have encouraged wildlife here from day 1 and the range we get is amazing, although with the water and conditions so much comes naturally.

This is something our guests absolutely love here the fact they are surrounded by so much nature and have that glorious birdsong all on their doorstep.
