Clarification
Your mustard maker keeps hearing:' I don't eat mustard, I'm a vegetarian' and I never get tired of telling people, and that indeed they can eat mustard as a vegetarian

1) because there are (should be) no animal related ingredients in mustard and
2) because mustard is an indispensable condiment in vegan and vegetarian cuisine.

Here we have chard noodles. I had some beautiful colourful local chard in my vegetable box from @44 Ranish. I fried some chopped onion and garlic, added the chopped chard, a little pasta water, 1 heaped teaspoon of Taste on India mustard, chopped tomato and a dash of cream and the result was a flavoursome vegetarian pasta dish - roasted pine nuts might have been nice, but I run out of them ;-)

You definitely can have mustard by being a vegetarian or even a vegan. 6 of the 7 Mustheb mustards are vegan suitable.

Your mustard maker is over the moon: Bonnie Wholegrain has been awarded a Gold Star ⭐️ at the Great Taste Awards!

The judging panel is made up of respected independent food and drink experts. I think it means something and I'm really overwhelmed... and proud. 🥳

Once again it is time to say THANK YOU to everyone who has believed in and supported me and this exciting venture from the very beginning.

Yesterdays guinea pigs loved them and your mustard maker is quite sure the popular Cheddar Mustard Muffins have to be ready for some competition. ;-)

These are muffins filled with sauerkraut and bacon, flavoured with caraway, cheese and in this case a little garlic mustard, but they are also great with Sweet Delight or the 8-Pepper-Cèilidh.

I imagine they will be available to the public for the first time on show day.

And if you haven't already marked the date in your diary, now is the time to do so: Tuesday 30th July South Harris Agricultural Show

Oh, and that reminds me, someone didn't know what sauerkraut was. It is finely chopped raw cabbage that has been fermented, and in Germany almost everyone has a relationship with sauerkraut... and it was the Americans who gave the Germans the nickname 'krauts'.

Somehow the summer weather has not been very consistent this year. But that didn't stop these ladies from making a mustard stop. While the men run back to the car, your mustard maker has a lively chat with Greta, Gretchen and Devon from Connecticut. They all have German ancestors who emigrated to America. The world can be a village when you can live where you want and have the freedom to travel where you want.

UPDATE: The forecast is looking good for Saturday 1 June for a lovely day on Taransay. Sailing time now 10am to allow a little more time for passengers to arrive at Horgabost.

Where are the early birds from? From Germany. After watching a TV documentary about the Hebrides, these two birds travelled straight from the ferry to the Glen to present your mustard maker with a tube of Löwensenf Extra, a hot Dijon-style mustard made in Düsseldorf. Scottish-born Graham and his Hilde are now on a week's tour of the Hebrides. Have a great holiday.
