We can also offer encapsulating leaded panels into glazed units making it a triple glazed window. Alternatively, toughened glass can be fitted behind a leaded window for added protection. Banks and Wood Stained Glass is continuing in the footsteps of family ancestors Burlinson &
Grylls who founded a glass works in 1868, making church and domestic windows up and down the
British Isles, America, Afr
ica and Australia. Please contact us or come into the studio and see us, we can then give you advice on projects and
help with design ideas. COURSES
STAINED GLASS LEADED PANELS
For beginners and intermediate levels
Create an A4 size leaded panel in a day, no previous experience required. Tuition will be given on
the procedure for making a panel to a design that will teach you how to cut curved as well as
straight lines out of glass. The day will consist of laying out your design, cutting glass, leading the
panel, soldering the cames together and finishing off with a specialist cement compound to hold the panel together and make it watertight. If you are someone already practised in stained glass but would like to expand your skill, please
contact us, as we are able to offer advanced tuition and advice. Only 5 places available as we prefer to work with small groups.

TIFFANY TECHNIQUE STAINED GLASS
Tiffany work is a technique using copper foil to construct a glass panel, hanging or 3D object. The
use of copper foil allows intricate glass work to be accomplished and this workshop will take you
through the stages of design, glass cutting, foiling, soldering and applying a patina to the finished
project. You will be able to produce an A4 sized panel by the end of the day
Only 5 places available as we prefer to work with small groups.

LEARN TO DRAW
These workshops are suitable for beginners as well as those who wish to further their skills. Observation is the most important part of any drawing or painting and whatever medium you like to
work in, learning how to interpret what you observe and how to put that onto paper or canvas, is
the first step to success. This workshop will work with graphite pencils and tuition will be given on
how to use the different grades, how to work on a subject and get it started, whilst looking at tonal
variations and how they relate to your project. There will also be an opportunity to learn techniques
to deal with creating textures. Only 5 places available as we prefer to work with small groups.
£45 per person, materials included. 10am - 4pm
DRAWING WITH COLOURED PENCILS
These workshops are suitable for beginners as well as those who wish to further their skills. Coloured pencils are produced by various manufacturers and all have different properties, this session is an opportunity to learn more about the medium and work with a selection of pencils. Tuition will be given on techniques for mixing colours, blending and forming textures as well as looking at the different types of paper, which can make a great difference to your finished drawing. The subject for this workshop will be the natural world and wildlife. Only 5 places available as we prefer to work with small groups.
£45 per person, materials included. 10am - 4pm
PASTEL PENCILS
This workshop is an introduction to the pastel pencil, a much cleaner form of pastel painting,
looking at the techniques required to achieve skills for rendering pieces of art work. Tuition will be
given using a paper called Pastelmat, a particularly good surface for creating layers, such as fur,
feather or tree bark. There will also be an opportunity to look at how backgrounds can be achieved, either before or after the subject has been completed. As pastel pencils can be sharpened to a reasonable point, it is possible to draw in detail and so depict delicate forms without any mess,
which makes this medium an interesting choice. Only 5 places available as we prefer to work in small groups.
£45 per person, materials included. 10am - 4pm
REFRESHMENTS
Are supplied through the day. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or try
one of the several coffee shops in the village, all within a few minutes walk. If you are attending a stained glass workshop we ask that you wear sensible shoes and clothing,
this is a safety measure as there will be small pieces of glass around. VOUCHERS
If you are looking for a more unusual gift for someone, then why not consider a workshop voucher,
these are available for any of the sessions.
