These sort of comments are really starting to p*e me off frankly. The discussed family farm tax is an extra tax, on top of all the regular taxes that farmers pay just like everyone else. The real millionaire land owners like our landlord will never pay this tax on the land they compulsory purchased for peanuts, then have asset stripped over the years. Like many other corporate land owners who own massive amounts of land in the uk. The hard working families will pay it though, who graft relentlessly to put food on your table. Who want to continue to do so for generations to come.
And that final comment there ‘just sell up’. You reap what you sow. If all these farmers do decide to sell up (and frankly who would blame them, life would certainly be more lucrative and less stressful) kiss the countryside as you know and love goodbye.
Another favourite of mine is the ‘subsidy scroungers’ comments. Guess what, there isn’t a subsidy anymore! There is so much poverty in the countryside that goes unnoticed it is unbelievable.
At least our industry is standing up against this, as should all businesses. If they are going after farmers, businesses, employers, pensioners, it will be Joe Public next - you’ve been warned! Funny how you can go from being a key worker to state enemy number 1 in a very short time.

The new woodland in Redshaw Gill is nearing completion. Seeing this project come to life after years of planning and overcoming several hurdles is amazing. Trees on farm can most definitely be positive. These are all native trees, planted strategically to grow in line with the existing tree canopy. Over the next few years this area will be managed to ensure the trees have the best chance of establishing thereselves and growing into a strong and healthy woodland.
