We had the sweetest time updating our chocolate knowledge at York Cocoa Works! 🍫

A huge thank you to Jamie and Michelle for an incredible chocolate-tasting journey—it was fascinating and absolutely delicious! 😍

From learning about the intricate chocolate-making process to tasting some of their finest creations, we were in choccy heaven. The Cocoa Works offers so many fun experiences, whether it’s crafting your own chocolate bars and lollipops, attending a masterclass, or even hosting birthday parties, school trips, and team-building events.

Our Story

If you are looking for things to do in Harrogate or York and want to get to know all about the history and culture of our lovely towns then a walking food tour is a good idea. Of course, while learning all this history and sight-seeing, you might get hungry so would like to try some delicious yorkshire food and drink. You want to find out the best places to go to get this locally sourced food. What if you could find a knowledgeable local tour guide who could take you on a walk around the town pointing out the historical sights, giving you some insight into what it's like to live in Yorkshire and could stop at several local independent restaurants, pubs or cafes to have a taste of what they have to offer. What a great way to spend an afternoon. A long lunch with a stroll inbetween courses. Welcome to the Yorkshire Appetite Food Tours. Kay founded Yorkshire Appetite Food Tours in 2017. She took her first food tour back in 2011 in Chicago, and was so impressed, she went on the beer tour, then on several more food tours. In fact, wherever she travels, the first thing to find out - do they have a food tour. It is such a great way to spend a day getting to know a town and tasting what food and drink they have to offer. You also find places you want to go back and visit again, try more of their food and drink. Both York and Harrogate have no shortage of places to eat and drink but where do you start! This gives you a taste of some of the popular places in Harrogate and York - places much loved by visitors and locals alike. The tours take 2.5 to 3 hours. We walk approximately a mile, at a gentle pace. We stop at 5 places - three savoury, two sweet and one offers alcohol - but there are non alcoholic alternatives if you prefer. The tour takes place rain or shine so come prepare for the Yorkshire micro-climate. At the majority of places we go inside to have our tastings but inbetween you will be outside so layers are best (and an umbrella). In York, we do have one outdoor stop. Don't have a big breakfast before you come and you will find you are pleasantly full by the end of the tour - both in food and in information. York has a very rich history dating back to Roman towns and was the Viking’s capital of the North - Harrogate itself is very different with a rich cultural heritage from it's Victorian Spa days and is still a great place to visit - there is more to us than an afternoon tea and a Turkish bath - great though they are! You will be in a small group of fellow foodies - or bring your own small group, it is a great experience to share with family or maybe for a friend's birthday or even for a hen party. You can call us with your own requirements and we will do our best to accommodate them. We can cater for different dietary requirements too.
