Our project combines a fantastic two week experience of building protection walls for local communities and tracking wild elephants on patrol.
Patrol week aims to protect a number of herds and build up data research on their movements and behaviour. The team can then effectively plan the waterpoint protection work based on where elephants are likely to be. They monitor the elephants during this week and record new births, deaths and injuries, and take identification photos. Effective elephant management is only possible through knowing every individual elephant. They record physical features, learn about their personality traits, record their herds’ movements and numbers, and every elephant has been fondly named.

Step off the beaten track and into the heart of South African wilderness, where you will train up to be a field guide on this game ranger training course.
The 8 week game ranger course introduces you to the life of a game ranger, the animals on the reserve and the background knowledge that is key to gaining your recognised qualification.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience working on the reserve, you will also be learning about geology and astronomy, weather and climate, animal identification and behaviour and conservation management.
We also offer a wonderful vet experience where you can get hands on with big game!

SHARKS AND MORE 🦈 💙
Volunteer along a beautiful stretch of South Africa‘s rich coastline, you will work with the marine Big 5, comprising whales, great white sharks, cape fur seals, dolphins and the African penguin.
The project is located in what is known as the “great white shark capital of the world”. Despite the daily sightings, very little is actually known about these mighty creatures, which makes shark conservation all the more difficult.
This project aims to learn more about sharks and their behaviour so that their population decline can hopefully be controlled and reversed.
Whilst the main component of marine conservation volunteering in South Africa is shark volunteering, marine conservation research is essential for all species. The ecosystem is very much reliant on all animals, and as such you will also be doing all that you can to preserve all of the Marine Big 5.
