We recently visited the delightful Tillingham Vineyard at Peasmarsh, near Rye in our 1967 Bedford coach. Did you know they have their own pizza oven at the vineyard?
Pizza and wine for a special birthday celebration certainly went down well! 🍇🍷

Happy Birthday to us! 🥳

Today we celebrate 95 years since Empress registered its first coach, a brand new 20 seat Dennis GL, collected directly from the Dennis factory in Guildford. Allocated the local registration DY 5849 it gave 10 years excellent service, being replaced by a Bedford in 1939.

It’s not all work and no play at Empress! Today we enjoyed going to the Festival of Transport at Hellingly and were delighted to be alongside a wonderful 1951 Bedford SB Duple coach. We actually owned the same model between 1960 and 1972, ours bearing the memorable registration BEN 301, alas now long gone! What a great comparison of the two coaches together.

We had a surprise visitor to our depot recently, Matthew’s Travel, visiting Hastings on a day trip from Essex in their German Setra S250 Special. New in 1998, it’s probably got the largest capacity engine you will find on a coach still in use on UK roads, with a 14.6 litre V8 twin turbo Mercedes Benz engine!
Matthew’s claim to fame is that his father, who ran Kirby’s Coaches imported the very first Setra coach into the UK in 1971!

We enjoyed an invitation to the Safeguard Coaches 100th Anniversary Celebration staged at Guildford cathedral yesterday. A special park and ride service for visitors was provided with some special vehicles.
For us we were delighted to officially announce a handover of our 1963 Bedford J2 back into the Safeguard fleet as part of their Heritage Collection, a coach they operated in the 1960’s!
We still have our 1967 Bedford though, it’s staying with us and available for hire for any occasion!
