Definitely one of the best activities on the coast here in Pembrokeshire. Joe is a top man, knows his stuff and is a great chef to boot.

The beast from Wednesday, just shy of 10lbs.
Who’s gonna get that first double of the year?
We’ve been so close with 2 over 9lbs and many over 8 for the clients.

Nearly always a better hit than any bass strike in my opinion, at least in the initial stages of the battle. Rod doubled, line peeling… the pollack looks for the first snag it can find. It’s very unusual for a bass to do this. - and for this reason I believe there is more skill to landing big pollack than bass, which 75% of the time will come to the surface and admittedly fight well, but don’t give you too many issues with snags.
This one was taken on a 25g , but unusually I was back on a reel filled with 12lbs mono and not braid like usual, as it was a back up reel (always carry a spare basic set up)… completely forgotten how spongey mono is. It tried to bury me on a few occasions, but unlike a few which have ‘got away’ recently, this one was coaxed to the kayak and Scott helped me net it. Thanks mate
Traditionally speaking we are getting to the end of the ‘big pollack’ run, which usually goes from April-July. We’ve had a double in September but strictly speaking once august comes the larger specimens move offshore.
