🌊🐬 Join us on our exciting wildlife adventure as we showcase the incredible creatures that call our islands home!

Today, we bring you the adorable Porpoises - small lookalike dolphins that grace our waters. 🐬💙

Porpoises are known for their predictable feeding habits, and you can often spot them joyfully feeding in the low tide on the south end of Ramsey.

These warm-blooded animals can feed up to 23 hours a day, depending on tides and their whereabouts.

They are feeding machines and hunt using echolocation. Porpoises will dive underwater for up to five minutes, and though relatively slow swimmers, they can cover hundreds of miles in a few days.

Unlike dolphins, porpoises are quite shy creatures and very solitary. They will tolerate the boats but will not interact with the vessel, or work together in pods to feed.

Don’t miss the chance to witness these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat on our unforgettable boat trips during our wildlife month!

🐬 The Risso’s Dolphin

🦑 The Risso is easily identified by the white scarring on its body, caused by battling its prey, the squid!

🌊 These dolphins are spotted further offshore and live in pods from 10 - 30! They grow up to about 4 metres in length and can live from 20 - 40 years old.

🌍 UK sightings are most commonly in Scotland and the Outer Hebrides, making these sightings particularly special.

✨ Join us on our Offshore Islands Voyage for a chance to spot these gorgeous creatures.

🖤 Razorbills!

🐣 Coming from the same bird family as Guillemots (the auk family), these birds have very similar breeding habits. They will breed one egg along sharp ledges, and will incubate the egg on their feet! Once the chick is ready, it will have to jump off the ledge, into the water, and follow its father out to see under the cover of darkness, protecting it from predation.

🏔️ Unlike their relatives, Razorbills are smaller than Guillemots, and are black and white in colour, and are recognisable by their black beak!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Razorbills also happen to appear on the emblem. Making them a very special bird to the area!

🌊 Book with us on our Ramsey Island Voyage and Evening Voyage for a chance to see these beautiful birds!

🤎 Guillemots!

⛰️ These little birds are members of the auk family, and breed in significant numbers on Ramsey Island from March to mid-July!

🦅 Guillemots are related to the now extinct Great Auk, which was once considered to be the Northern Hemisphere’s equivalent to the penguin!

🐧 Unlike the penguin, Guillemots are capable of flight, but unfortunately their wing spans are very small in comparison to the rest of their body. However, their wing size and shape render them to be pretty fantastic swimmers!

🥚 These birds breed on long narrow ledges, preferably sheer cliffs, where they will cram onto the ledge in big numbers. This prevents larger predatory birds from landing!

🚤 Book with us on our Ramsey Island Voyage and Evening Voyage for a chance to see these wonderful birds!

✨ Today’s daily wildlife feature is the short-beaked common dolphin!

🐬 As the name suggests, these species of dolphin are very common to the coast of Pembrokeshire, but we do often have visits from Bottlenose and Risso’s dolphin!

☀️ These sightings are always very special as dolphins are very sociable, and often interact with the boat.

🌊 On occasion, we are lucky to witness super pods of up to 500 dolphins, meaning we get spectacular sightings!

⛵️ For a chance to see these magical creatures, book with us on our Offshore Island Voyage.

The Minke Whale 🐋

🐳 The most common whales we spot around the Pembrokeshire coast are minke whales (with the occasional fin and humpback too!)

✨ Whale sightings are very special, and don’t happen to often! As these cetaceans are solely focused on feeding and migrating, these encounters can be very brief, making them even more special!

⛵️ Our Offshore Islands Voyage is dedicated to taking you slightly further afield to spot cetaceans - a firm favourite!
